Arrival of the👑
Well, it’s been a really quiet autumn at the Tate Modern so I’ve had to resort to looking at gulls 😂
This big fella has been keeping me interested though; current thinking is probable Caspian though bill not very typical. #londonbirds
Sutton Peregrines. 1/2. The chicks in 2025 hatched between 27/04 and 01/05, so the 2025 male is now 17 months old! Here are two videos from last night of the 2025 male feeding as it was getting dark. #londonbirds
No sign of the adult male!
Has this youngster prevailed? Only time will tell.
Garden birding. Magpie bath time. #londonbirds
Local birding. 1/2. A juvenile Hobby on a pylon in a small London park this morning. #londonbirds @davidelement.bsky.social @markbravery.bsky.social
Success
The ringed juvenile kingfisher down on the Lea with breakfast.
Garden birding. House Sparrow bath time! #londonbirds
Garden birding. A Chiffchaff paid a visit to the garden this morning to use the bird bath. These photos were taken just after that, when it was preening. This is a bird I often see/hear locally, but very rarely in the garden. #londonbirds
Put a ring on it!
One of two juvenile kingfishers who were chasing each other around on the River Lea yesterday morning has a ring on it's right leg.
The most likely place it will have been ringed is Walthamstow Wetlands.
Precision strike
Watch as one of the juvenile kingfishers catches a tiddler at Walthamstow Wetlands.
Garden birding. I was eating lunch in the garden today when this surprisingly tame Robin appeared near and even below me looking for some food. The paler stuff below it in the photo is crumbed 'buggy nibbles' I subsequently put down, but it wasn't too keen on them! #londonbirds
Garden birding. Feral Pigeons having a drink and a bath this morning. #londonbirds
Garden birding. 1/2. House Sparrows at the end of the garden today busily feeding (probably on fallen Silver Birch tree seeds). At least one of them was dust bathing. #londonbirds
Garden birding. It was good to see a Jackdaw visit the garden briefly this morning. They are lovely birds. #londonbirds
Bobbing kingfishers
Watch as they take it in turn to stand tall trying to intimidate each other.

By this point these competing kingfishers were less a metre apart.
Fly past
Watch as one kingfisher flies at the other.
