Turning the garden compost today, & thought I'd have a quick sift, just in case. And (*does air punch*) got my first garden record for Lesser Earwig, in the shape of this apparently one-winged female. #KentNature #earwigs #dermaptera

A small, brown earwig with pale legs. Part of its one wing projects beyond its short, squared-off elytra. Its short, stubby forceps indicates that it is a female.

I for one welcome our new overlords! 😉

Nah. Survey is for Southern region, #KentNature to Dorset.
Could be worth your time:

Large flock (17+) of Long-finned Pilot Whales on the River Thames, viewed from Gravesend, this evening. First I've seen in UK waters this century. Last image shows one animal frequently on its side...fingers crossed for it. BDMLR are aware. #kentnature @kentfieldclub.bsky.social #cetaceans

The first firebug we've seen in our garden! Not the first for the locality, but on a hollyhock seed head, which the previous sighting was also on. #kentnature

The confiding juvenile Dotterel found on the shingle @sandwichbirdobs.bsky.social this morning attracted a small steady procession of respectful admirers, only troubled by some wind-blown litter and no doubt bemused by it's probable first contact with homo snapiens 📷🤳 #Kentbirding #Kentnature

Southern Green Shieldbugs (3rd & 5th instars, I think), sunning themselves on Wisteria in the garden yesterday. #KentNature #bugs #Shieldbugs

Enjoyed an evening with the Beavers on the River Stour in the centre of Canterbury yesterday - great to see these fabulous beasts going about their business with so many people passing by. #KentNature @kentfieldclub.bsky.social #UKMammals

Such a common sp. here, their movements often go overlooked. I see handfuls off inland most autumns, but this was nice. Continentals moving after moult? Icelandics on way who knows where?

That'll do.
