Through time, there have been female rulers who have successfully run ancient kingdoms, so well, in fact, they have been nearly erased through time by later monarchs.

This is possibly an early nineteenth century Napoleonic prisoner of war straw marquetry writing slope.

It’s a rare survival from the long years of captivity endured by French soldiers and sailors in Britain during the Napoleonic Wars.

Historically, comfrey has been grown for its bone healing properties since 400 BC.

In folklore, travellers kept comfrey to keep them safe and to keep their partners faithful whilst away!

This is Bircham Windmill. In the nineteenth century more than 300 mills worked across Norfolk.

Very few survive now, and Bircham is one of the rare examples that still shows its full height.
