Results from Mana Ohkura et al. show that growers can minimize #boxwood blight disease losses by growing plants further apart so that their canopies do not touch and by irrigating less frequently so that the foliage dries quickly: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTOFR-09-25-0104-FI

FIGURE 1 Top, 3.8-liter container (industry 1-gal. size) boxwood plants placed 15 cm apart with canopies separated (left) or placed pot tight (0 cm apart) with plant canopies touching (right) at two nurseries specializing in boxwood production. Bottom, overview of experimental facilities with subplots consisting of 49 plants placed in a 7 × 7 grid (left). Plants within subplots were spaced 15 cm apart (middle) or 0 cm apart (right), and the center plant in each subplot was inoculated with Calonectria pseudonaviculata. Subplots were then irrigated 1, 2, or 3×/day (40 liters/day), and disease spread was monitored.

Biological control is a promising management strategy for #boxwood blight. Ping Kong, Claire Carter, and Chuanxue Hong found Bacillus subtilis 19FCG3-4 and Burkholderia sp. SSG consistently demonstrated superior performance under standardized conditions: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTOFR-09-25-0091-FI

Olanike Omolehin et al. identified Wilt-Pruf and TransFilm as the two most promising anti-desiccants for #boxwood blight management, with significant potential savings in labor cost: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTOFR-10-25-0112-FI

Historically, box was seen as a sombre plant and springs were given to mourners at funerals to throw onto the coffin.
