Finally - for now - we move to Gekkota, another major wing of the squamate family tree, and specifically an article on their eggs and egg morphology... tetzoo.com/blog/2026/8/... #lizards #reptiles #herpetology

Ok, this one (from July 2026) isn't a republished article from the archives but a new one, a book review. Specifically it's on taxonomic vandalism, a subject closely connected to squamate studies and #herpetology... tetzoo.com/blog/2026/7/... #books #reptiles #bookreview

Here's a very unusual article I republished in 2025, this one more #cryptozoology-themed than pure #herpetology; it's devoted to a mythical African snake termed the Crowing crested cobra... tetzoo.com/blog/2025/9/... #snakes #herpetology #reptiles

A Multi-Species Examination of Temporal Capture Trends in Freshwater Turtles

Fenton S. McKown et al
doi.org/10.1111/1440...

bait effectiveness/ capture probability/ temporal capture rate/ trapping bias / #Herpetology

Graphical Abstract: Freshwater turtles are commonly surveyed using baited traps, yet behavioral responses may bias demographic estimates by altering capture rates over time. Using data from 102 wetland sites in North Carolina, we found significant declines in capture rates across multi-day trapping periods for 5 of 6 species. These results demonstrate that species-specific behavioral responses can rapidly influence capture probability, highlighting the need to incorporate temporal and behavioral dynamics into survey design and analysis.

This mucus has adhesive and cohesive properties, letting the tree frog stick to surfaces in a process called wet adhesion. This adaptation helps tree frogs defy gravity, even on wet tree leaves or bark.

New video out!
The Peloncillos of New Mexico have it out for me, but we survived the mechanical distaster that occurred there and still managed to find critters...with the star this time probably being a mammal!
