Beating Luther gets me a key, an annoying reward as a key is useless without knowing the lock it goes to. This might be a quest hook, but I have to wonder if I just broke sequence...?

@asteriondeltoro.bsky.socialIn a tower to the east lives the first boss, some wacko-looking guy named Luther. He has a pile of HP and confuses the party, but it otherwise not too difficult, and falls after a few minutes of hacking away, though my wizard is a little roughed up.
@asteriondeltoro.bsky.socialCombat is fairly hectic. Characters and enemies alike have a speed bar, and when it's full you can attack. There's more to it, but charging doesn't pause even when your turn is up or you're in a menu, so best to ignore the subtleties and just hack away.
@asteriondeltoro.bsky.socialA bit of grind and my party is now fully equipped, plus gotten some levels and perks. The game has an encounter system borrowed from Zelda 2: enemies (and life-restoring fairies) appear on the map, and running into them starts a battle.
@asteriondeltoro.bsky.socialWe start off without arms nor armor, so make a somewhat unreasonably long walk to a nearby town where we find some sidequest hooks and shops. Money's tight, unfortunately, so we settle in for some grinding.
@asteriondeltoro.bsky.socialIn a clear nod to Ultima, the king gives us a quiz to determine our hero's class. I get archer and tell the king where to stick it, deciding on a lady Barbarian instead. Then you choose your party, which I fill out with a Paladin, Wizard, and "Bird Master."
