I usually don't post my bird photos because they are not good. But today's alt #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BadWeather — birds in inclement weather and I had to post this pathetic hawk following a mega-rain in Tsavo East in Kenya. Rain can be a stressor for birds!

The first time I saw an overwintering red-breasted goose (roodhalsgans), the skies suddenly opened and covered all of us, man and bird alike, in something in between hail and rain. Luckily it lasted only a moment! #BirdOfTheDay #BadWeather #Birds

Most of the birds are greater white-fronted geese, but in the centre stands a red-breasted goose, standing upright and flapping its wings - black with white stripes. Because the light has mostly gone the bird's dark red breast and throat no longer stand out as much, but with some effort they can be made out, as can the white lines separating the black and red parts of his neck and face.

Dark-eyed Juncos are the quintessential bad-weather birds. Here's a pink-sided version hunkering down in some hoarfrost several years ago. One of my all-time favorite shots.🌿
