Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally. However even the best mother ing cannot be as perfect in satisfying the infant’s biological needs as was the situation for it in the womb. Hence, there is going to be a gap between need and fulfillment inherent in this prematurity, an inherent frustration of need to at least some extent, and, it follows, inherently an increase of at least some amount in the degree of pain suffered by the newborn and infant in the nonsatisfaction or incomplete satisfaction of its biological needs.

Yet secondary altriciality is important in another respect. Since this phase represents a dependent phase that corresponds to phases that occur to other species in utero, it leaves Homo sapiens vulnerable to neurosis and mental illness — its roots in the pain of unmet biological need — to an extent unprecedented, in any other species. This also contributed to increased brain size, increased secondary altriciality, and so forth in the way discussed above for birth. Thus, we have another vicious cycle, again with “fevered” brains and culture the byproduct.

Like any other paradigm, these earliest of our experiences will direct and constrain us even in terms of where we will look to explore. They force us to interpret the data we find into constructions of assumptions which skew and often reverse the interpretations that should arise from them. Yes, that should logically arrive from them. Elsewhere I have called this our basic wrong-gettedness.1 Indeed, from the paradigm I am unveiling in which everything we know and feel flows out of what we once felt and experienced, our reason is discovered to be no more than just a product of them, and not separate, and inherently faulty. This perspective reveals our vaunted logic and intellect to be riddled through with a species-arrogance — for reasons I detail in those other works — which often overturns our being able to see what would be obvious to any other species observing the same thing.

Therefore, past experience determines the memory out of which we build our logic and reason. We have no detached reason. We only have a species-arrogance that we do. Which itself emanates from, is determined by, such early experience.

The youngest of the three words was proposed in 1979 by a small group of scholars: entheogen, from Greek entheos, having the divine within. It names a use, not a chemistry. I use it mainly to report how a tradition understands its own practice.

Parents Are Imperfect

Human parents are responsible for overseeing and assisting in the successful development of our newborns at levels of development that are taken care of by biology — refined to perfection over the course of billions of years — for other species. That includes our own species at its earliest beginnings, before that birth trauma and prematurity began ... which is millions of years ago.

Nature does not vary. It is as precise as the laws of physics and biology. It does for all species what it has done for billions of years. It has perfected itself in any process over the course of that immense period of time ... anything less than near perfection has been eliminated through natural selection. All species benefit from such perfection of Nature, as do humans over the course of most of our nine-month gestation.1

But then we are born.

6. WOMB WITH A VIEW

Page 71

…experience distorting the Clear Light, actual Reality, we come to the next and more fundamental imprint than the prenatal matrices of human evil, the PMEs. This undergirding layer of experience is that arising from our experiences during earlier womb life. Let us say, roughly, this is the first six months of gestation. This is, indeed, our “golden age.”

Rank Truthiness

Psychoanalyst Otto Rank, as early as 1929, writes that all religions are an attempt to re-create this situation in the womb, which he considered was invariably pleasurable. And for Rank that included the time which I just described as being hellish and related to the prenatal matrices of evil.

However, Rank, along with everyone else, did not know there was a distinction between early womb life and later womb life. I wouldn’t have to write my books explaining it if they did. Remember, he was writing almost a hundred years ago. Medical scientists, let alone psychoanalysts, did not know at that time all that we do now about the life of the embryo and fetus in the womb. They did not have our medical imaging x-rays, amniograms, and other monitoring instruments. They did not have the benefit of our research on prenatal and perinatal life. They did not, of course, have benefit of our abilities to re-experience these times and recover these memories.

genocides, ecocide, and to murder from afar and upon command.

So we arrive at our situation today, separated from Nature, inauthentic and confused about roles in life and proper ways of being in tune with our deepest selves, pervasively unhappy and driven ... in allegiance to unconscious pushes and pulls derivative of all our early traumas and emotional abuse, and about to bring down the whole shebang out of pure contrariness. Oh, what to do. Well, at this point we are thoroughly removed from Eden; we have cast aside natural ways. “By the sweat of our face we will eat our bread.” We have learned to work hard, to forgo pleasure. And we never look back, lest we be confronted by that burning pain of birth pain.

The result was a human beholden always to higher-ups and uncon- sciously craving acceptance and approval in all the actions of one’s life. Well, let’s see how that, in particular, came about in a person’s life. This has everything to do with the primal scene and the ways and whys of how we surrender our true identity, our authenticity, in favor of a fake self, an unreal self, imposed on us from the outside, its roots in the desires of society’s elites, and mediated and modeled by the parents. Up next we look at infancy and childhood and how, as a result of the split of the personality into real and unreal components, we are left ever asking: “If not myself, well, then, who to be?”

Inktober, rescue

Starting about 40,000 years ago humans started putting notches on bones. Many of them have 28 marks. The same as the number of days in a lunar month. The same as a woman's period.

These are the earliest indications we were aware of time. They are the earliest indication we knew how to count. These are probably the oldest things we have that were created by women for women.

Counting rescued humans from the unknown of time. We could now predict when things would happen. It would take a long time before knowing the passage of time would go from saving us to trapping us. When knowing how many days had passed and were left would turn into knowing when our ability to survive depended on when to clock in and when to clock out.

The infant has complex needs, which are as complex and de- manding as those that are taken care of by other species in the womb, and must rely on human adults, with all their flaws, shortcomings, and imperfections to somehow be able to attend to and satisfy them. Rarely can humans do it well, and never can they do it as well as Nature does for primates in the womb.

By comparison, all other mammals, when born, are more able to provide for themselves, are further along in their development toward independence when born, are more capable of bringing about or at least initiating the satisfaction of their needs . . . hence they are less dependent, and vulnerable, than are human infants.

Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally.
