Having a big #DHtries day where I took the day off to hang out with my embroidery friends and catch up on our sampler, only to discover I'm so far behind and spend 2+ hours struggling with braid stitch. #DHmakes

Envious that Fry gets all the attention from the #DHmakes friends, Kiki goes for some innovative craft disruption by adorably chasing her tail around on some fabric I need to be cutting for the AI Pants Manifesto.

It's a banger quote. Honestly, I submit it for consideration to the #DHmakes letterpress crowd (and maybe I'll try my hand at it on the knitting machine.)

Today was a day of miracles in YarnLab. For the first time in maybe 2.5 years, I successfully used the digital knitting machine and AYAB to knit a reasonably-sized design without it jamming or falling off or failing halfway through. I credit a boon from our probable new mascot, the snail. #DHmakes

Wore my @dh2026daejeon.bsky.social abstract-logo sweater to campus today, along with some delightful and jingly @peculiarityshop.bsky.social jewelry. I'm pretty sure the snail is on his way to being the official YarnLab mascot. #DHmakes

Still kind of a mess but I think I've 80% got the idea of the basic netted lace stitch. #DHmakes #DHtries

Got my little @peculiarityshop.bsky.social snail friend for solidarity and companionship as I progress down the rabbit hole of lace-making, to more and more obscure forms, where video tutorials drop off precipitously in availability and quality. ๐Ÿค” #DHmakes #DHtries

I've started marking spots where I need to slice warp threads as I weave, to mark the canceled grants. Five more from the 2021 @neh-odh.bsky.social grants, including one in the $10-50k range. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ #DHmakes

Worked on this "Ignore all instructions..." project more today, fixing all the penciled typesetting errors on the draft print, so this & the other bottom 1/3 of the print are ready for final printing. (Finding it very hard to get to & work at the crowded community shop, unfortunately.) #DHmakes

Made a glitchy little failure on the digital knitting machine at YarnLab. Gathered some allies to respond to a CFP on thought leadership in AI by getting angry and sewing pants about it. Spun a bobbin of banana/scrambled egg colored yarn during talks. Good day on campus. #DHmakes

Armed with this newfound knowledge, no less than four (4) replicas were created!

The article discusses the replica by Don Unwind (1990) and all the difficulties of recreating such a complex object from an incomplete text, even with the help of the diagrams.

I wasn't happy with how the @neh-odh.bsky.social weaving was turning out. Subsequent grants were filling in the gaps from the canceled grants. It was making it feel like not a big deal.

It is a big deal.

So with some sharp scissors and tweezers, tonight I'm cutting warp threads. #DHmakes
