Today's #BirdOftheday Alt Theme is #Grey, birds with grey in its Plumage.

I don't care what anyone says. Pigeons are so pretty. This beauty is a rock pigeon.

An American dipper perches on a rock in St. Vrain Creek at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this vertical color photograph, an American dipper stands on a red sandstone rock in the upper-left quadrant of the frame. The bird is captured in three-quarter left profile, with its head turned back over its left shoulder to reveal its right profile. Two additional red sandstone rocks fill the background. In the upper-right corner, bird droppings provide telltale evidence that birds frequently use these rocks as perches. Similar signs can be seen on other rocks throughout the creek. The foreground features flowing creek water, with a yellow autumn leaf caught against the rock by the current.

A beautiful portrait of an American dipper in the flowing waters of a creek, a vital habitat for its survival.

A great blue heron fishes from a branch extending above the water at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this horizontal color photograph, a great blue heron stands in left profile on a branch extending from a submerged tree, leaning forward as it intently scans the water below for prey. The first golden light of morning illuminates the heron, highlighting its elegant form against the surrounding water. The branch stretches from the right side of the frame toward the left, running nearly parallel to the water's surface, with several broken nubs protruding above and below it. Fishing line or netting and a couple of tangled fishing lures caught on the branch add an unexpected element to the composition, serving as a reminder of the human impact on wildlife and its environment.

A beautiful portrait of a great blue heron poised to fish in a wetland habitat essential to its survival, with a subtle reminder of the importance of keeping these natural spaces free of discarded fishing gear.

Jay, Kittiwake, Linnet and Moorhen fit the bill for @robcrank68.bsky.social's main theme (for Alan) for #BirdOfTheDay, #JKLM - bird species starting with these letters.

#ECK #birds #BirdPhotography #BirdsOfBlueSky #Photography @whatbirds.bsky.social @bbappnews.bsky.social @britishbirds.bsky.social

A Jay is facing the camera with its head turned to the left of the frame. It has pink plumage with a black 'moustache' and a panel of blue feathers on the wing.A beautiful Kittiwake sits on a rocky ledge, turning its left side to the camera. It has grey upperparts with black wingtips and a snow-white belly and head. The beak is lemon yellow and the legs and feet are black.A Cock Linnet sits on top of an evergreen branch against a clear blue sky and with its head turned to face the left of the frame. Its pinky-red breast signals that it is a male in breeding plumage.A Moorhen stands at the edge of a lake with it feet just in the water. It has its left side turned to the camera, showing its brown upperparts, separated from the grey belly by dashes of white feathers. it has a bright red and yellow beak and green legs.

- A Eurasian Jay perched on top of a bush

#birdphotography
#ECK #birds #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #ThursJay

A Eurasian Jay in close up perched at the top of a small bush. The bird is slightly right of centre of the shot, facing left so that its left side is visible.
It has its head in side profile and It is glancing at the camera slightly. It has a thick black bill, white throat and crown, which is streaked with black and a prominent black steak from its beak to its shoulder. Its plumage is pinkish, with bright blue and white barring on the wing coverts, turning to black and white behind it.
Some barely visible, out of focus vegetation in the foreground gives a hazy effect to the birds feet and tail. It is perched on a bare branch, just visible at the bottom of the shot, which has a spur travelling upwards behind the bird to the right. A bush with small, oval green leaves is in the bottom left and the background is a white sky with some out of focus branches visible throughout.
