Darkness in my setting has 2 symbolism; malevolence & sacredness (the latter for death to the ego, humiliation, sincerity, shade/shadow protection from scorching sunlight, etc).

I try really, REALLY hard not to compare myself to others. I think it's a coping skill I developed because I was born with a cleft lip and comparing myself to others invariably makes me frustrated. So I just kinda don't anymore.

That said it makes me sad when writers doubt themselves. 😕
