happy #smallpoemsunday! 💜

feel free to post small poems you wrote or ones you love by other poets :)

in the spirit of back-to-school, here’s one I wrote when I was teaching. my first school’s parking lot abutted the Salem Street Cemetery~

I Was Going To Burn Some Sage For The People Of This World But I Read An Article On The Internet Saying It Was A Bad Idea

Also I didn't have any sage
To burn
Doing nothing is always easier
Ask the cop in the graveyard
Or the teacher who
Every day
Parks her car in front of legions
Of Massachusetts dead
And goes to work teaching
Students about the history
Of witches thieves
And revolutionaries

RISK
The kildeer nested on the ground- seconds from the horses' hooves and the graceful arcs of the canter Each time we rounded the turn. she stood over her speckled eggs (I could see them from my horse's back) and made a display of her fierce white feathers. How I admired her! Audacious before the iron shoes!

Another #smallpoemsunday already, huh? Where did the week go? Here is one of mine.

Hustle
My phone vibrated so hard that it threatened to shimmy its way off the dashboard, deliveries flying in from all over the city. Who needs a boss in the modern world? Or health insurance? Not me, give me the open road and the smell of hot wings slowly growing cold in my passenger seat.
I'm going to live forever.

Even in Darkness

Even in darkness, love
shows the circumference
of the world, lightning
quivering on horizons
in the summer night.

For #smallpoemsunday hosted by Tom Snarsky, here’s a small thought for today, because, alas, November will change nothing…
