Thank you very much David. There was a lot of luck here. What you can't see in the image is how fast the musician was moving, and how quickly the lighting was changing.

I'm looking forward to the responsibility and privilege of choosing next week's winner.

Finding Balance #ShareMondays2026

I went to #ThursleyCommonNNR on Saturday to look for #BlackDarter #dragonflies. It was lovely to see the heather too 💜 @surreyhillsnl.bsky.social @britishdragonflies.bsky.social @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social @naturalengland.bsky.social #wildlife #nature #odonata

The image captures a detailed, close-up photograph of a black darter dragonfly (Sympetrum danae). It’s positioned facing slightly toward the camera, showcasing its large, dark compound eyes and intricate body texture. The black darter is the only small dragonfly that is almost entirely black. Males are black with dark yellow spots along the sides, while females and juveniles are brownish-yellow. This is an overmature male, its thorax and abdomen appear a dark, dusty blackish-grey colour. Its four clear, membranous wings are spread wide horizontally. The complex, lace-like vein structure of the wings catches the soft light. Small, dark patches (pterostigmata) can be seen near the tips of the wings. It clings tightly with its thin, dark legs to the very end of a bare, slender stick that curves upward from the bottom centre of the frame.
The background consists of a beautifully soft, completely blurred bokeh. It blends muted tones of earthy greens, soft oranges, purples, and browns, from a mix of plants in the natural heathland habitat of Thursley Common NNR, including heathers. Thursley renowned for dragonflies! The black darter is one of my favourites and this is the time of year to look for them. This is the UK’s smallest dragonfly and when they’re keeping still, perched on a twig or heather they’re really hard to spot without disturbing them!! Looking for them makes me completely slow down and take in every aspect of my surroundings, looking for the slightest hint of movement or the shimmer of light on an insect’s wing. That’s how I finally found this one. Much of Thursley is open lowland heath and boggy marshland. It’s internationally important habitat with some extraordinary flora and fauna. Although it’s tricky to access in the wheelchair, there’s a boardwalk that allows people to cross the marshes and ponds while protecting the habitat. It’s this type of habitat with damp moors, heath and bogs, where black darters are most likely to be found.

Nice to get some rain but not when it lashes down as you are trying to make a picture. Still it added something to the result. Shot in the pines in the Ashdown Forest #ShareMondays2026

"Above the Col des Aravis" for #Sharemondays2026

A "painterly" mountain scene with high alpine meadows giving way to sheer cliffs, the backbone of rocky alps in the distance, white fluffy clouds overhead.

My favourite event of the year has to be the the balloons at Chatsworth Country Fair. All but one of the 'lift offs' were cancelled, so I feel very lucky to have witnessed this amazing event - the best ever!

One note past midnight.

Anna von Hausswolff played in the Big Top at End of the Road late last night. This is her saxophonist. (Anna is the hazy silhouette behind the keyboards.)

This photograph was captured during a live performance by the Swedish singer-songwriter and composer Anna von Hausswolff. She was playing on the Big Top stage at the End of the Road Festival 2026 (in the UK), at the end of the final day.

The image shows a silhouette of her saxophonist in the foreground. He is framed by a narrow triangular beam of white light, shining vertically downwards from an overhead spotlight. He is side on, showing his profile, and the shape of his saxophone as he plays.
Behind him, vertical in its stand on the floor, is another, larger saxophone. Its colour is blue, from the lighting and stage mist, which softens its shape. A bottle, can and drinking glasses are on the floor, next to it. They are just soft shapes in the mist.

In front of the saxophonist is a tier of three keyboards and the silhouette of a microphone on a stand. They are caught by the light of another spotlight, this less bright and pale blue-grey in colour. Anna von Hausswolff is playing the keyboards, but she is visible only as a soft, grey silhouette on the other side of the keyboards..

The tones in the image are all blues and blue-greys, with darkness outside the two cones of light.

Image captured at one second past midnight on the morning it was posted. (I got two hours’ sleep last night.)

I’ve driven past this interesting office building in Caldicot loads. It makes me think of Severance. Turns out there’s a public cafe in there that makes banging Welsh cakes 😋 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Mostly planes in the last week. Can a photo be a metaphor? Well, with the Red Arrows down to only 6 planes for Saturday's display due to maintenance issues with their aging aircraft and Air China increasing their weekly cargo flights to Prestwick from 3 to 11, perhaps it can.

The woodland floor is beginning to come alive with fungi, 2 pieces of fungi and to the right of the larger one, there is a little beastie as well, that I never even noticed, till I got it on the large screen, using a diffuser to shade them from the sun, that was coming in and out and battline the wind.
