A media environment is the normal media around us every day. An anti-environment helps us notice things we usually ignore. An example would be pages in TMITM that had different text styles, like upside down or big/little fonts. #hwa2#antienviornmental

Media Environment is info you read and move past. Anti Environment makes you stop and wonder. TIMTM read upside down, or a naked torso photo placed right after plain text. Instead of skipping past, I ask why it's placed there, what it's trying to make me notice

I think, "McLuhan doesn't want you to decode content. he wants you to notice the water you're swimming in" is similar to the idea that media being invisible from earlier. Instead of focusing just on the content, think about how the medium is shaping you and your experience. #hwa2 #thewater

I am still not completely clear on how we look at the present through a rear-view mirror. hastage still confused #hwa2 #forrealthough

One example I recall from you on why McLuhan wanted everything to be stitched back together is that we may lose awareness of how our attention and emotion may be altered. #hwa2 #thinkinginparts

"Media are most powerful when they become invisible," mm kind of like how normal our phones are to us, and we don't notice that we experience the world very differently than those who have never had one #hwa2 #invisible

When something like media becomes invisible, you stop questioning it. It becomes your reality. #hwa2 #invisible

Instagram reel scrolling is a medium in my life which is so normal it disappears, it makes me lose track of time, after a point i am not taking new information into my mind, just scrolling aimlessly. A way that i can expose it would be setting a reel counter on Instagram.

"the limits of critique when that critique still accepts fragmentation as the norm" #hwa2 #flippingdewey

"McLuhan doesn't want you to decode content, he wants you to notice the water you are swimming in" , he is trying to make us understand the effect media has on us while we are engrossed into it , scrolling trains you to have shorter attention span, no matter what videos you watch.

Tiktok is so normal in my life that I will watch it even when Im doing tasks like brushing my teeth or doing my homework, and I barely even realize. An anti enviornment would be deleting the app, then seeing how much I go to use it only to realize it's not there. #hwa2#normalmedium

"A phone extends your nervous system"
I could not understand what that meant first time i heard it , it took me some time to understand it, but then i realized that every single time I reach for it has become an nervous system reflex.

Instead of only focusing on the content we see, we should notice how the medium itself affects us. The water is the media we are surrounded by every day, like phones, social media, and the internet. We use them so often we don't notice how they change the way we think. #hwa2#thewater

Melvil and John Dewey. The relevance of them to the case of McLuhan is to show that fragmentation is not a natural state of human cognition and action. The hidden costs help us realize that even the most "learned" professionals may be subject to the separation of mind and action #hwa2 #thetwodeweys

I was confused by this quote because I didn't understand what "march backwards into the future" meant. I think it means that we try to understand new technology and changes using ideas from the past, even though the future may be completely different. #hwa2#forrealthough

I agree with this statement, as in the case of GPS. People become used to GPS and now it is invisible to them, even though it is one of the most important piece of media.

I would say this example resonates with me. I will often open Instagram looking to contact someone and then suddenly notice a particular video and decide to watch. Ten minutes later I'll realize that I have just wasted ten minutes and forgot why I even opened the application. #hwa2 #mediafunhouse

I did not think of the idea to take an inverted image of the photo, actually. But even doing so and still not being able to understand the image is a "trap," as you explained. #hwa2 #usedtechtoreadit
