This week's #FridayFrills is this 1920s Italian black chiffon evening gown with embroidered rhinestones like fireworks exploding at the side. Imagine that glittering in a lowly lit room. Stunning. #Fashionhistory #ootd
Shrug off the short, crossover red satin jacket to reveal a strapless, many petalled cocktail dress in the same fabric. Mainbocher had made a name for himself two decades earlier but in the mid #1950s was still creating drama in evening wear @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
My dream dress for celebrating another year around the sun. This embroidered cream and pink silk satin evening gown was designed by Rahvis in 1952. London Museum collection. #fashionhistory #birthday
“The world of fashion has long been preoccupied with notions of its own cultural importance and artistic merit. It’s preoccupied with the idea that it’s too intellectual for entertainment.”
A reflection on Bob Mackie and his place in Fashion.
“Fashion resurrects the dead. Not literally, not even faithfully. It exhumes the graves of historical ideas, dismembers them, and reconstructs them into something for the present.”
What’s old is new is old is new again.

Limited Edition LTD, which upcycled flags, in this case clearly Gilbert Baker's 1979 gay pride flag, into clothing. It is so 90s that I just love it. #Fashionhistory
Norman Hartnell’s 1953 coronation gown for Elizabeth II remains a pinnacle of structural couture, featuring intricate, weighted embroidery on heavy silk. It stands as a profound moment in fashion history that defined royal tradition through masterful materiality. #FashionHistory
This week's #ThirtiesThursday garment is Chanel's lemon yellow silk crêpe dress and scarf ensemble from S/S 1930. The simple silhouette is transformed via the vertical pleating and shirring embellishment on the bodice. LACMA collection. #fashionhistory
Silk draped dress, Torimaru, England, 1976
A dress that flows like a river.
The fabric seems to spill from the halter neck, sweeping down the body, then splitting in the skirt, before sweeping back up behind the figure to form the hood. Wonderful.
It is an eye wateringly bedazzling pattern, a weave of dizzying drama in stylised leafy motifs that speaks to the techniques of late c19th textile production. No quiet, demure-ness here but rather boldness of design in late #1890s fashion. Sold via #KerryTaylorAuct #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
