Enchanted Valley

Yosemite Valley and more specifically, Yosemite Tunnel Viewis one of my most favorite places to sit and watch the world go by. I could sit here for hours watching people and nature both.

Enchanted Valley The scene opens like a breath held in winter—Yosemite Valley wrapped in drifting fog and soft cloud layers, the air so cold you can almost feel it tightening across your cheeks. The granite walls rise like ancient guardians, their sheer faces muted by the mist, giving the entire valley a dreamlike hush. To the right, Bridalveil Fall spills in a white ribbon, its plunge softened by distance and vapor, yet still carrying that unmistakable sense of motion—water tumbling, crashing, sending a faint roar that you can almost hear beneath the quiet. The fall glows subtly against the darker stone, a vertical streak of brightness in the muted palette. Beyond it, The Three Brothers emerge like spectral silhouettes, their tiered forms rising through the shifting fog. They feel both massive and weightless, as if the clouds are lifting them skyward. The atmosphere is thick with moisture—the kind that beads on your eyelashes and settles into your lungs with a cool heaviness. The valley floor below is hidden, swallowed by the rolling fog that moves like breath across the landscape. Light filters through high clouds, creating a soft silver wash over the scene, the kind of illumination that makes every detail feel quiet, reverent, and suspended in time. There’s a sense of stillness and grandeur, the kind that makes you instinctively lower your voice. The storm has passed, but its presence lingers—the air charged, the sky layered, the world freshly washed. It’s the kind of winter moment where nature feels both immense and intimate, inviting you to stand still and simply absorb the beauty.

Winter Falls

This photo was taken from the swinging bridge that crosses the Merced River south of Yosemite Falls in Mid-Winter in Yosemite Valley. One of my favorite times to be in the valley.

Winter Falls This image shows a breathes cold, quiet Yosemite winter. From the swinging bridge, the Upper Falls drops in a long white ribbon, its plunge crisp and powerful against the granite walls. The air feels sharp, the kind that stings your lungs a little, and the waterfall’s winter beard—ice clinging to the rock overnight—adds a frosted texture that makes the whole face of the cliff look ancient and weathered. Below, the Merced River lies still enough to become a perfect mirror, doubling the falls and the muted winter sky in reflections so clean they almost look like a second world opening beneath the bridge. Golden Falls This image was captured down on the valley floor of Yosemite National Park. I had found a somewhat isolated dogwood tree alongside a small spring on the side of the road. The dogwood leaves had all turned golden as it was late fall. There are a couple of evergreen trees framing the dogwood and there is some snow on some boulders in the background. This is an abstract image. There is an appearance of movement as the whole image was purposely blurred with in camera movement. This gives the image an appearance that the leaves are coming down in a cascade.
