Love,
Dare you not speak my name,
you have betrayed me the last time
with promises of acceptance
and security only to give me
rejection and fear;

Love,
You have shamed yourself,
all of the beauty and wonder
only brought ugliness and
misery;

Love,
You are-
dead to me,
over and over I give you a chance,
but I swear to you, swear to you
this is our last dance

Dead Letters
By Dawn Mclachlan

You said you said sorry
but that’s not what I heard
from words that struggled for air
and writhed in the death of Meaning
Words distorted in the telling
as Reason chased its tail

You said you said sorry
but that’s not what I heard
because I was watching high cirrus clouds
smudge the perfect blue with icy veils
and as sure as night follows
I knew the rain would come

A little stumped by today's #PoemsAbout prompt #DeadLetters so here's quite an old poem which I think works. Many thanks @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk for the challenge. Will read and respond to other offerings later

For #PoemsAbout #DeadLetters

With much thanks to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk

A free verse poem that talks about a lost opportunity and the inability of one to communicate with the other after meeting and the grief of hearing of their death many years later.

Dead Letters

Love letters discovered;
Tied lovingly with a bow.
I brush away the cobwebs;
Unfold brittle edges.
A catch in my breath as I read,
Full throated young love expressed.
I remembered our love and wept.
So hopeful and naive.
Heavy hearted,
I coud bear no more;
It was time for cremation;
Dead love, dead letters;
Ashes of both,
All that remains.

In his anger, he whispers
that living with her is like inhabiting
one of her terminally unfinished epistolary novels.

He'd love her to end it.

Off for a long trip today..I may be sometime. Taking you lovely poets & @hookland.bsky.social with me to Japan via Bluesky. There might be a Haiku.
Here's a poem I made earlier.

Missing Ruth

When I took the call
it was from a stranger,
our final time
already torn
from my Filofax rings.

The next time hangs,
pending forever,
exists only in ink
linked with other
sudden cancellations...

because I’ve pencilled you in
wasn’t quite
firm enough.

I hate getting all of these kinds of letters #PoemsAbout #DeadLetters

final form

dear i

i'm so sorry to be contacting you this soon
but it seems that your demise is more imminent
than expected

yes
we all want longer
yes
it is unfair
if you wish to cling to the idea
that fairness is still a thing

no
there isn't anything you can do about it
or anything you need to do to prepare

there is nothing

sorry again

yours

Dead letters
scripted in black tears
All I can see is memories
falling from a darkened sky
held in cobwebs
I can't see tomorrow
and yesterday clings to me
with sharp hooks
All I can ask for is comfort
but it is always to far from my reach

For #PoemsAbout #DeadLetters, here's a slightly crazed point of view: The Dead Letter. (*waves* to @alanparrywriter.co.uk 😁 )

The Dead Letter
We keep his secret, we remaining in the alphabet. He just got weary
of holding up that space between K and L. He always felt misplaced,
he cried to himself in the night. His shape became…
unrecognizable and after a while no one knew his name.
He slipped off the page. We do not forget.

I'll dive into this. Hope I'm tagging correctly.

A NEW CAR

He always liked a new car
endlessly patrolling town
to ferret out the best deal

after he’d stopped driving
and then walking
and then sitting
he still talked about it

as if life were a circle that
always returned on itself
given enough time
and not a tightening knot

to grin in blazing sun
to roar on open roads
a hope for better times
or for any times at all

Correspondence

every day of summer
I wrote you a letter
heartbeats
hand shaking
ink staining my fingers

I still have them
at the bottom
of a box
at the back
of the attic

I look out
over the sea
and wonder
how this day would feel
if I had posted them

OBITUARY
By Clare O'Brien

I arrange the words like an oracle,
Pour your thin mystery into shapes I cannot authorise.
Time heals nothing; though I press release,
I liberate nothing. These lines are bloodless traces,
Pencil points, pressed into schoolroom paper
