Saw this behavior for the first time at Isle of Palms, S.C., from a beach house upper deck.

A male Eastern Bluebird holds a large grub in its beak after returning to the top of a utility pole that he used to spot the worm in the grass below.Before swallowing this large grub whole, the Eastern Bluebird slapped it several times hard against the top of the pole, apparently to soften it up for eating.

Center frame the parent Green Heron has their beak aimed downward, while tow of the chicks is biting the beak, which triggers the parent to upchuck a fish for the waiting chicks.
