A way I, as a student, might already be becoming dangerous is by acknowledging I am an amateur and taking full advantage of that by questioning patterns and habits #hwa2 #becomingdangerous

@moremoer.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 11:10 PM

I would be an amateur expert, because I want to be knowledgable on a subject but still be openminded and a creative thinker. #hwa2 #amateurvsexpert

McLuhan argues that amateurs can offer a fresh perspective as they are not trapped in the intricacies of a topic. An example of this is someone who reads TMITM and questions the photos. Or a tiktoker that intentionally makes an antienvironment in a video. #hwa2 #amateruvsexpert

Being caught in a Mediafunhouse is something I am definitely going to be more aware of after listening to HAning with Ashley #2 #hwa2 #somethingishappening

McLuhan wants us to stop thinking in parts because once fragmentation feels normal, we stop noticing it. The Instagram funhouse example is right, I scrolled for 2 hours on Instagram, and could not remember what I watched. Content is not bad, the fragments are.

Fragments can often cause us to stay within old logic and thought that you feel are your best, but can still be shaped by invisible logic #hwa2 #thinkinginparts

A media environment is an environment where media is invisible to us and becomes a part of our normal life. An anti-environment is an enivroment designed to expose the media in a way that makes it obscure and apparent. Two examples are TMITM and Amateurism #hwa2 #antienvironment

McLuhan flips john Dewey's quote not to dismiss him, but to show that even people who do not like placing things in categories, might in some scenarios still end up thinking in categories

Melvil Dewey, who invented the Dewey decimal system, which was NOT NEUTRAL, and John Dewey, who was a philosopher who studied the relationship between experience, learning, and perception, and reminds us that humans are not decimals but still got caught up in fragments #hwa2 #thetwodeweys

@amanraj07.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:52 PM

two Deweys are discussed,
Melvil, who sorted knowledge into boxes from his own worldview, and
John, the philosopher, who warned against splitting experience into categories.
The hidden cost is sorting leaves things out. Instagram takes one of my preferences and leaves others

This definitely resonates with me. I often go on an app like Instagram or TikTok looking for a specific video, then I end up scrolling, then somehow remembering I have to buy something I was supposed to buy last week. #hwa2 #mediafunhouse

@kaylak4t.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:36 PM

Amateurs pick things apart where professionals have learned to ignore. For example, amateurs break things and mishear things. I would rather be an amateur, so I have room to question what I am learning. #hwa2 #amateurvsexpert

@kaylak4t.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:31 PM

The environment is something we are inside, and we normalize. #invisible vs anti-environment is a tool that helps us see the environment we are in. Ex; phone on gray scale or a TikTok explaining how TikTok works. We then ask why things are being done in a certain way #hwa2 #antienvironment

@bluesbybridget.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:26 PM

This example does resonate with me because often I find that I opened my phone to do something simple like check the time and then get distracted by so many other things that I forget why I even opened it in the first place, which is crazy and it happens way too often. #hwa2#mediafunhouse

@amanraj07.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:25 PM

Yes i agree with this example because this has happened to me before, i open Instagram to reply to someone and i end up seeing a reel on my for you page and then, the pop ups begin, one by one i am going deeper into the media till i forget what i came to the app for.

I feel like i am an amateur, amateurs can afford to lose an argument and they question things that experts have learned to ignore, I want freedom to explore and not have the pressure to have the answer always right

The medium that is normal in my life is TikTok, and if that disappeared, I don't think I would know what to do with myself in downtimes. It definitely makes constant stimulation feel normal. An anti-environment approach would be putting my phone on a blank piece of paper. #hwa2 #normalmedium

@bluesbybridget.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:12 PM

McLuhan thinks amateurs can see things in a new way because they are not stuck doing things the usual way. They may ask more questions and try new ideas. I would rather be an amateur because I think I would be more open minded and creative. #hwa2#amateurvsexpert

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:11 PM

Related to my previous post, I think by making an anti-environment present allows for me to become dangerous. It is almost like I would be transforming myself from a previous professional to amateur. #hwa2 #becomingdangerous

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 10:08 PM

I think HWA2 has shifted my mindset in terms of approaching media. In terms of the way I scroll, I will definitely want to now start using an application lock (anti-environment) so that I may regulate my time better and not get thrown off in terms of daily planning. #hwa2 #somethingishappening
