#Conlangity Day 3
Longer consonant clusters are rare in Nummerfil.

The 'rchb' combination for example only exists in the word 'Gorchbold' (a name for our species meaning ugly monster from hell gorch-bold),a loanword from Drotniril, which has more Germanic-sounding harsh sounds.

B, M, and P sounds are rare to nonexistent in Tellari-Universal, again because Tel have rigid jaws and cannot make them. This is part of the reason they don't simply learn human languages instead of constructing a whole new language: in many cases, they just can't.

I feel as if Polish, Serbian, Croatian, etcetera, consonant-heavy languages and consonant-cluster-heavy languages would, as a whole, be very difficult for the vowel-loving speakers of Kirrhin, and those languages evolved from it. 🧵

Looking at my sheet of words, I realized a lot of what I said here isn't quite true.

Stora, or possibly Restora, which is a word for love, uses both S and T
I still don't think S is at all common without another consonant directly after it.

- to take #Conlangity as a 2nd prompt I would follow daily for this month. I knew I had no idea what I was getting into. I had to look up the word "conlang"

Now I'm realizing I bit off a bite I can't chew. I'm seeing everyone else's languages & realizing I just don't have the experience or time 7/?

@midnightrose838.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 5:34 AM

#Conlangity (dump about my abilities & possible plans for this prompt at end of thread)

I cheated, & did a tiny bit of this yesterday, also only mentioned a few common consonant rather than fleshing out most of the sounds.

It's hard to be aware of all the sounds humans use, but I'll start - 1/?

You may have noticed yesterday that there are many common sounds entirely missing from Draconoidic.

#Conlangity Day 3

Congratulations, you survived Phonemes Day! But we're still not done establishing the basic flavor of your conlang.

Today, tell me which sounds (consonants, vowels, phoneme combos) are rare or never used in this language, or would be hard for native speakers to pronounce.

Daily prompt for the #Conlangity worldbuilding game:

DAY 3
[SOUNDS] What are some sounds & sound combos that rarely or never show up in your language? Are there any consonant clusters or vowel variations that would sound "off" or be difficult to pronounce for speakers of this language?

The Kirrhin language has a decent amount of vowel presence, but not a lot of them in terms of the actual number of vowels.

It includes glottal stops and clicks, and in written form, includes apostrophes, colons, and dashes. The 🧵

Kirrhin. The language of the ancient reihyan cultures and of the Sal:a'hu-E:Ru'din, which strongly implies a connection between the mostly-human nomads of the Ghan Desert and the reihyan peoples of the moon and the Starflow River 🧵

Ok, so, this was hard AND fun. Given that I started with some surnames based off of Yakut, I wanted to maintain at least the root sounds of it.

Siefan is going to be vowel heavy (like the donor) with both short and long vowels that WILL change the meaning of words.

An IPA chart made for a fictional language referred to as Siefan.

Unfortunately this will be nightmare to convert into alt text, so I apologize for the mess that will follow this message (but I have copied and pasted the info from the chart).

Sheltri was originally going to be a more sibilant language when I started conceptualizing it, but I’m moving away from that except for referencing sibilance in the dialect of the treeshapers. I don’t think it’s a lot heavier on vowels than English, but they are more drawn out

#TheDragonblood: Draconoidic (we'll go with that for now) is made to fit the vocal tract of a dragon/wyvern and not a human, so has an unusual set of sounds.

Geez, Emily, starting off heavily with the stuff I struggle with.😂

Arca'raed (pronounced 'ARC-ah rEEd' and often translated as 'our speech' but more literally 'speech of the lands') is definitely a more vowel heavy language. Many of the words emphasize their vowels while softening 🧵

I'm still a meek newb at this, so I'll avoid the IPA charts for now and stick with vibes.

(Still looking at 4 languages, but not much thoughts about Draconic and might be one that I don't continue with.)

Shaylorian - I'm torn since I can see this going two very different ways.

I'd say Nummersil has a good balance between vowels and consonants, and most sounds are compatible with my own language (Flemish) -yes I was lazy- except for some extras like the th and kh.

My browser closed and erased my first attempt at a post 😵

Anywho. I wanted Dowk to have a harsh sound to it (it's angry-language!) but what came out the other side has a breathiness and fluidity to it that was unexpected. This is partly down to the sounds I chose but I think

Screenshot showing a list of IPA symbols. The consonants are mostly the ones familiar to an English speaker, including both Th's, but there's no R. There is a tap-R, as well as both voiced and voiceless uvular fricatives.
The list of vowels is rather short and limited mostly to front and back sounds.

Its sounds are very similar to Old English.

#Conlangity is making me so jealous an giving me FOMO!

I love seeing everyone's work! It's such a challenge to build a language!

I'm sitting in my corner going "No. Im NOT going to build out my whole Jymathian alien language! I have no time and no plans to write their story!😭"
