One of two of these birds that constantly patrolled the grasslands looking for food. When they find their prey they will stamp and trample it to death before eating their catch, usually lizards, frogs, snakes etc.

The secretarybird or secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is a large bird of prey that is endemic to Africa. It is mostly terrestrial, spending most of its time on the ground, and is usually found in the open grasslands and savanna of the sub-Saharan region. John Frederick Miller described the species in 1779. A member of the order Accipitriformes, which also includes many other diurnal birds of prey such as eagles, hawks, kites, vultures, and harriers, it is placed in its own family, the Sagittariidae.

A Redwing feeding on Ivy Berries

#birdphotography
#ECK #birds #photography #birdsofbluesky

A Redwing sitting on top of a clump of Ivy with a berry in its mouth. The bird is close up, centre of the shot, in side profile facing to the right so its right side is visible.
It has a brown head with a prominent white/cream eyebrow streak. The back and tail are brown. Its flank/under its wings are an orangey red. The throat, chest and underparts are whitish, heavily streaked with brown spots. Its beak is open as it holds an Ivy berry and its yellow tongue can be seen between its beak and protruding beyond the berry.
The bottom half of the shot is covered in a clump of Ivy leaves littered with berries and the birds legs and the end of its tail are obscured by some of them.
The background is a white sky with three bare, out of focus branches through it.

I'm heading out shortly but I will catch up later. Happy Wednesday! 😊👋

A photograph of a Bohemian waxwing bird perched amidst a dense thicket of cotoneaster branches heavily laden with clusters of vibrant red berries. The bird is positioned near the centre of the frame, facing right as viewed, and has just eaten a berry. Its smooth, greyish pinky brown plumage has a soft, almost velvety texture. The waxwing features a prominent, swept-back crest on its head and a distinct, sharp black mask running across its eyes down to a black throat patch. The bird's wings display intricate markings, including a bold black band outlined with bright yellow stripes along the primary feathers. Its short tail ends in a brilliant, crisp yellow band. The background is a complex network of tangled branches, leaves and berries. While the immediate surrounding branches and bright red berry clusters are sharply in focus, the foreground and background blurs out softly.
