Juvenile Scalloped Ribbonfish 💝🐟 D16: Scallop #SciArtSeptember #sciart #fishart #digitalillustration
Originally wanted to incorporate some pupfish into a full stream scene with wading Avocets for the #SciArtSeptember meander theme, but didn’t have enough time to figure out the composition and get it painted. Something like the attached sketch is the idea I’ll keep working on
Red River pupfish (Cyprinodon rubrofluviatilis) in #watercolor and ink for #SciArtSeptember 20 / #SundayFishSketch “Meander.” These little fish occur in the meandering, sandy-bottomed streams in the upper Red River basin of western Oklahoma and Northwest Texas, particularly in harsh environments.
I am lucky enough to live by the Skagit wild & scenic river, which supports five salmon species, and in a state that has demolished the Elwha and other dams. I may not know how to paint salmon, but I know that a meandering river is good for the health of the ecosystem #sciartseptember meandering
Fascinating how such a hackneyed quote can still produce in me such wonder. Gratitude for the og inspo from Getty Images. #sciartseptember Star
Soft yellows and oranges of this Leopard that I painted in 2023 fit the #SciArtSeptember prompt for the color Saffron.

Day 20 - #meander
The Slough Darter (Etheostoma gracile)
I thought back to my aquatic ecology courses and finding this species in the slow water of small river bends (meanders) in SE Kansas.
Watercolor + colored pencil.
Day 20 #SciArtSeptember prompt is meander so I am sharing geologist & paleontogist Alice Wilson (1881-1964) with the Ottawa River. 🧪👩🏼🔬⚒️ #histsci
A job in the Mineralogy Division of the U of Toronto Museum was her entry into #geology. In 1909 as a museum assistant with Geological Survey of Canada
#SciArtSeptember #SundayFishSketch Day 20 is Meander, which made me think of the meandering creeks and streams I grew up mucking about in. So here are some of the fishy contents of those streams! This is the most time I’ve ever spent on a piece of art or done a background and my neck hurts #SciArt
It's not a worm, it's not a snake. It has no eyes, no pigment, no fins. For #SundayFishSketch x Day 20 of #SciArtSeptember #Meander here is Rakthamichthys, a swamp eel genus adapted to live in aquifers, wet soil, and other underground habitats in India. What a meandering evolutionary journey! 🦑🐡🧪
20. Meander. Ribbon eel.

Day 11 - Heart shape
Corculum Cardissa is entirely adapted to its symbiotic relationship with microscopic algae. The shell contains pigment-free areas that transmit and scatter sunlight into the shell's interior for photosynthesis.
