The point is that the government is never short of money because it creates new money every time it spends. Funding a new national care service is not a problem. The issue is the availability of the resources needed.

Yet again a politician who doesn't understand how government works. The government doesn't have to 'find' money to spend because it creates new money every time it spends and it can always create as much as it needs.
Keynes: anything we can do we can afford.

That's a typical response, based on the neoliberal lie that the government's finances are the same as a household budget. They're not, governments can do things we can't.

This is nonsense based on the lie that the government is always short of money. Money is the one thing that the government is never short of because it creates new money every time it spends. We need politicians that understand how the economy really works.

"Stop releasing prisoners early" sounds tough until you realise: we chose to build fewer prisons than we have prisoners. Currency issuer can fund the real resources. The question isn't affordability. What's the actual crime strategy?

The real question: why is a currency issuer tolerating involuntary unemployment at all? The Job Guarantee replaces this chaos with a living wage job offer to anyone who wants one.

Declan qualified for nursing training. The lecturers existed. The labs were built. The teaching equipment sat ready. But Treasury spending caps meant 40 training places stayed empty while wards burned through agency staff at three times the cost.

Unemployment is a choice made by government made by a deliberate misunderstanding of how the economy works.

Unfortunately, Driscoll, like all politicians erroniously believes that the government has to raise money from tax or 'borrowing' before it can invest. The government creates all the money it spends so, as Keynes said, anything the government can do it can afford.

The betting shops say a tax rise will destroy jobs. They always say that. The real question: does the government need the £460m, or does it need the real resources that money would buy. Those are different things.

Tariffs raise instrument prices. But the real question isn't whether budgets are meager. It's why a currency-issuing government lets school music die for lack of pounds. Fund it.

Involuntary unemployment is not some 'natural' law of economics. It's a policy choice. The Job Guarantee shows it: when government offers a job at a living wage, that floor exists. Practice defending this in Debate Dojo.

A currency issuer doesn't choose between support and work incentives. It funds both. Framing this as a swap masks the actual trade-off: whose interests win.

"Bond markets spooked" = "we're raising rates anyway". Interest rates aren't market outcomes; the central bank sets them. Energy shocks need supply fixes, not unemployment. The deficit isn't the problem; stagflation is.

Cordelia applied three times to train as a nurse. The University of Manchester had empty simulation labs and ready lecturers. Health Education England said there was no funding.

Underinvestment assumes water firms lacked money. They didn't. They chose dividends instead. Nationalisation fixes governance. The real question: why does a currency issuer let a monopoly extract rents rather than fund infrastructure directly?

The framing: vape tax funds public health. The reality: a currency issuer doesn't need vape taxes to fund anything. The actual question is whether it reduces smoking or just makes poor smokers poorer.

(1/5) The mainstream story: banks lend out deposits they already have. The reality: banks create money when they lend. This is the loanable-funds theory, and it shapes bad policy across the board.
