"There's a black hole in the public finances."

A black hole is a gap between a forecast and a self-imposed fiscal rule. Westminster writes the rule, then discovers it has broken it. The real constraint is real resources, not the rule.

"We must show how we'd pay for it." Wrong frame. A currency issuer doesn't pay for spending with revenue. It creates money when it spends, destroys it when it taxes. The real question: do we have the real resources? Use Argument Builder to craft your answer.

Shein outsells Asos and we're told it's a customs loophole. Cute. The loophole is thin pay packets that can only stretch to £8 tops.

Westminster issues the pound. It can fund decent wages and a Job Guarantee.

"Feed your country or pay your creditors" only binds those who owe in currencies they can't issue. Dollar debt, yes. Sterling debt, no. The UK government issues the pound. Its limit is food and fuel, not a creditor's invoice.

The Phillips curve says you need unemployment to control inflation. That's the choice we're told we have to make. But it's a false one. The Job Guarantee replaces unemployment as the price anchor with paid public work at a fixed wage.

"Unlock billions" makes it sound like a vault. It's a timetable. Westminster issues the pound, so the £39bn waits on an election, not a bank balance. Housing associations are ready to build. The real limits are builders and land, not cash.

A £500bn spreadsheet error is funny. The bigger error is the frame: net zero as a bill to "afford".

Pounds aren't scarce. Steel, grid engineers and installers are. Count those. Westminster issues the pound and can fund the lot.

"Credible to markets" is a strange test for the government that issues the pound. Gilt yields are a policy choice, not a verdict. The Bank sets rates and can buy gilts. The real limits are resources and inflation.

(1/5) Your opponent says the deficit proves we're spending recklessly. You freeze. They score a point. But you don't have to. There's a way to learn the rebuttal that actually wins.

"France jettisoning neoliberalism" assumes the problem was the ideology, not the constraint. The real shift: treating real resources and employment as the binding limits, not the deficit. That's not post-neoliberal. That's MMT.

Social media is full of claims like 'the government's running out of money' and 'we need to balance the budget'. Sound familiar. The Social Media Critique tool teaches you to spot the misinformation moves; and land the MMT reframe that wins the argument.

(1/5) The UK Green Party has just passed a motion replacing fixed fiscal targets with a functional framework: fiscal space is real resources, not arbitrary debt limits. That's MMT in practice.

Bond yields are soaring because central banks raise rates, not because debt is too high. Austerity will deepen shortfalls. Why is the currency issuer letting interest costs spike instead of anchoring rates?

You see "we can't afford it" on every thread. The claim looks obvious, but underneath it sits a bankrupt frame. Social Media Critique teaches you the five misinformation moves that lock it in place; and how to break it. Spot the trap, win the argument.

Governments don't tax first and spend second. They have to spend first. How else would anyone have the money to pay the tax?

Tariffs aren't about affordability. The US government funds via currency creation. The choice is whether it taxes the rich or inflates prices on workers. That's what's being masked.

Spend more than £1bn to "help" frames public provision as a budget constraint. Real question: why isn't energy publicly provided or subsidised at source? A currency issuer doesn't ration help. It builds capacity.

"The NHS can't afford it." Wrong frame. The UK is a currency issuer. The real question is whether real doctors, nurses and beds exist. They do. The Argument Builder will show you how to demolish this claim in seconds.

#MMT #UKGreenParty #Economics #UKPolitics

@mmt-action.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:37 AM

Framing aid cuts as a budget trade-off is a con. A currency issuer doesn't choose between prisons and aid by squeezing one pot. Both are affordable. The real constraint is real resources and inflation, not pounds.
