Day 25 of #FantasyIndiesSeptember

This week, I added 3,548 words to Book 8 of my Oracle of Delphi series WIP; total is now 95,094. Total for the series is 828,865. I may need to split this one into 2 books, because I still have 7 chapters and 300 years to go. 😬

Happy Friday! 🎉

#FantasyIndiesSeptember day 25: Free Friday

I haven't been here in a couple months so I feel a little bad doing this, but I think this is as good a time as any to make a soft announcement:
My book is coming out next month! The Town that Banished Death will get a formal release date Soon™️

25: Free Friday

Marketing Friday! For those who don't know about it, I have an ongoing dark fantasy series! It's about a young woman who wants to become a monster hunter. Two books released so far. Check it out! Reviews have been pretty good so far.

Picture of the covers of my Bloodmaster series side by side.

Coward: The illustration is a giant green centipede coiled around a spear
Noxious: The illustration is a black woman with red hair doing a backflip while licking a bloodied spear

Day 25: Free Friday

My duology has received some special reviews these past few months. Here are a few excerpts, though I really want to share something from all of them eventually.

The two POV characters are winsome and understandable. The politics are fascinating. And the writing is confident and polished. —Pete AldinIt isn't often I am left so speechless reading a book that I lose control of my two mental languages. Like the border region of my mind that knows which language to prioritize for a given situation, the exciting and criminally underrated finale of the Apidecca duology explores the innermost feelings of knyadkind and the relationship forged between the boastful Oklas and the subdued Prismer. —Nancy FosterLansdell has a distinct authorial voice that perfectly suits the story. The prose is clear, articulate and sparing, allowing the reader to appreciate the unique features of Knyadrea’s naming systems. The book has heart, and is concerned for the welfare of others, but emotion travels only within the repressed spaces given to its main characters. We connect with these characters, yet characters struggle to connect with one another. —Sarah Balstrup.

#fantasyindiesseptember Day 24 WIP history

My new dystopian series in set in an alternate world where humanity was once the ruling species, but after a series of pandemics, some were changed into vampires and werewolves, restacking the social hierarchy.

I've been listening to a lot of piano covers and unplugged acoustic versions of dark songs lately. Here's one that's been on repeat:

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 25 - Music That's Inspired You Lately

Silly as it is, Tom Cardy's H.S. is my motivational anthem for 2026. I want a pluto tattoo to remind myself of the message every day www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK0K...

25) Free Friday or music you've been inspired by lately

Well I've been yapping about music all month for Songs of September.

To pick one thing that inspired me this month, I revisited The Last Unicorn and the opening song hit me RIGHT HERE.

Day 25

Happy Friday! I haven't listened to much music lately, but I did go see Jacques ze Whipper on Wednesday night. He does little songs as he's whipping! He was hilarious. His creativity is inspiring.

Thanks @lvrussell.bsky.social @chesneyinfalt.bsky.social

I have self-published ONE book. A novelette, to see if I wanted to self-publish my stories.

Self-publishing is a lot of work, so I never did it again. But MOON BLOOD royalties have been trickling in and I think some people are finding it. #WritingCommunity

Right side is text of the first page of MOON BLOOD AND SALT FLOWERS:

1576, Viceroyalty of Peru

The llamas stood in a half circle, their hums ruckling across the morning silence. Amaya had been walking the hills in search of the herd sire and his harem since the first thin light of dawn. Morning now painted the high plain with long, pink fingers while serrated mountains marched in the distance, their snowy crowns aglow.
When she drew near, she saw why the llamas hummed. A party of Spanish soldiers had camped for the night in a hollow where late winter rivulets had pooled. Between dark boulders that glittered with threads of ice, the soldiers had sought relief from cold winds. Their puna grass fire had died and the men, most still wrapped in blankets, sprawled and twitched upon the stony ground in the last throes of dying. Trickles of blood ran from staring eyes while swords and harquebuses lay unused near their hands. Weapons would not have helped them.
Their enemy, luminous ghostly stalks sprouting from the hard earth, had come upon them while they slept and now overarched the prostrate men. Mottled pods, swollen like melons, wove above two of the unfortunates and were in the midst of feeding, tendrils drawing the souls from their mouths and eyes in soft, gauzy tatters. The souls looked like alpaca fleece being pulled apart for spinning. Tiny spangles of light, bright as stars, flashed on that fabric as the bloated flowers drew it into black throats surrounded by translucent white petals.
Moved by instinct that overrode the headman’s warnings about how the Viceroy’s soldiers brought only trouble to their village, Amaya ran to the soldier nearest her and kicked him.
“Wake up!” she shouted. If he woke up, he might escape, because salt flowers moved very sl…

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 24: Interesting fact about my WIP's world history

Because the air pollution has caused major health issues, most people live & work underground & travel through "hamster tubes." Techs who manage the air filters have incredibly short life expectancies.
