Découvrez Kepler-186, un système stellaire fascinant aux côtés de notre propre système solaire. 🌌✨
From 6,366 confirmed worlds to potentially around 100,000 more: Even as a scientific projection, this illustrates the extraordinary scale that the next generation of exoplanet research could reach.
Simply unimaginable. 🤯🔭❤️

Importantly, 100,000 #Exoplanets would not mean 100,000 habitable worlds.
But a much larger sample could help us better understand the conditions under which life might exist beyond our Solar System. 🌌❤️
Especially intriguing are potential #biosignatures – chemical or physical indicators that could point to biological processes.
Scientists would still need to distinguish possible biological explanations from non-biological ones.
But the most important question is not simply:
How many new planets will be discovered?
It is also:
What will we be able to learn about these worlds? 🌌
Compared with the 6,366 currently confirmed exoplanets, a projection of around 100,000 additional discoveries would represent more than 15 times the current number. 🪐
An almost unimaginable scale. 🤯
6,366 confirmed exoplanets – and then comes this number: around 100,000 more possible worlds. 🪐😮
NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope could open up an entirely new scale of exoplanet research. 🔭❤️

🪐 JWST hints at molecules on three planets
Webb checked 10 exoplanets and saw hints of complex molecules on three, K2-18 b, TOI-732 c and TOI-270 d, but none on the other seven. The team thinks the signals are real.
WASP-181b is an extreme hot Jupiter in Capricornus, where intense radiation drives a complex atmosphere of metallic haze and thermal inversions.

I can hear the weather reporter now: "Today's temperature on Planet X is 500 degrees Kelvin, with a slight chance of acid rain near the poles and mostly ammonia-clouded skies. Good day to stay inside."
#exoplanets New lava planet paper from a collaboration I am involved in. This paper makes predictions of what kind of atmospheres we should see in our lava planet survey (P.I. Lisa Dang). Paper led by Mariana Sastre arxiv.org/abs/2609.20155 . Advised by Oxford PCDgroup alum Tim Lichtenberg.
The Roman Space Telescope's coronagraph uses a deformable mirror — actuators push and pull the surface by microscopic amounts to cancel starlight distortion. Result: planets 100 million times fainter than their star become visible.
