Almost everyone wears black. The standard explanations — it’s easy, it matches, it’s classic — are all true and all partial. The honest reason most people reach for black is the one they don’t say out loud.

Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally. However even the best mother ing cannot be as perfect in satisfying the infant’s biological needs as was the situation for it in the womb. Hence, there is going to be a gap between need and fulfillment inherent in this prematurity, an inherent frustration of need to at least some extent, and, it follows, inherently an increase of at least some amount in the degree of pain suffered by the newborn and infant in the nonsatisfaction or incomplete satisfaction of its biological needs. Yet secondary altriciality is important in another respect. Since this phase represents a dependent phase that corresponds to phases that occur to other species in utero, it leaves Homo sapiens vulnerable to neurosis and mental illness — its roots in the pain of unmet biological need — to an extent unprecedented, in any other species. This also contributed to increased brain size, increased secondary altriciality, and so forth in the way discussed above for birth. Thus, we have another vicious cycle, again with “fevered” brains and culture the byproduct. PRODIGAL HUMAN Page 28

PROLOGUE: KEYNOTE OF THE GREAT REVEAL Page 11 gather more things about them than others. “For when your kind were nomads and gatherers — more gypsy-like and free-spirited and trusting in the invisible forces to be kind and to provide whatever one really needed.... I’m saying that as wanderers and nomads no one of your kind wanted to ‘own’ very much for it then had to be carried ever after, hardly worth the burden. Much more like the other beings on this globe, like my own kind, you were then. “But then there was that fear that came over your species, unlike anything ever before seen among the rest of us creatures of God. A fear of uncertainty, quite strange. For we think it joyful to not know what the future will bring, and believing in higher forces that really are good and loving, we expect to be loved and blessed and gifted with whatever fate the future brings, knowing there is nothing that is not a product of that consciousness of All, which is both good, for All, and perfect, beyond what mere creatures can know in the moment. So we are happy with our lot, never understanding why your kind chose to forgo the glorious, blessed lives you had at one time:

Young woman in Aztec regalia dancing in a field with several people in the distance. Everything except her is desaturated, so she stands out on the frame. Her head is covered in a large brown and black striped feathers held by thick black leather band with intricate details. Her tope is brown / orange in color with several patterns and designs on the chest and over the shoulders.

This warming began at around twenty-one million years ago and receded only about fourteen mya. Life was no longer so good. The days were hot and discomforting. Rising temperatures meant tree lines receded, leaving open space in Africa for savannah and desert. Vegetation was harder to come by. Very many, most actually, of our would-be progenitors died off. That would have been the end, and we would not be around today, except for.... Water. Our Second Residence Was Waterfront Property Luckily for us, some of our ancestors did live near oceans, streams, marshes, rivers, and lakes. And what a relief it was to have water to cool off with on those hot scorching days. Furthermore, this was the best possible place to forage. Vegetation still grew prodigiously near water sources. Sure, we had to share those… INTRODUCTION Page 2
