Utterly grim weather meant seawatching from the comfort of our lounge was the order of the day and by Barra standards it was pretty good. Highlight was a house tick Sabine's Gull (no.156) plus juv Long-tailed Skua, 4 Pom Skuas, 120+ Sooty Shearwaters all flying south into the gale. #birdingscotland
Dunlin on Traigh Beach, Arisaig. #BirdingScotland
Two recent anomalies. Leucistic House Sparrows arenβt unusual in Shetland, but this one at Boddam is particularly striking. This Lesser Black-back at Clevigarth today was late by Shetland standards, though climate change may affect future patterns. #BirdingScotland
1cy Mediterranean Gull still at the south end of Strathclyde Loch. Also 2 Barnacle Geese there too.

Got to Castlebay just in the nick of time this afternoon to see the Glossy Ibis that put in brief appearances in the past 2 days circling away high to the north-west. The 3 previous Barra records involved 2 singles and a flock of 9. Fair chance we'll get more this autumn. #birdingscotland
Couple of highlights today from what had been a very quiet September. Leach's Petrel past Mull Head and a Barred Warbler (first seen yesterday) still in the North Wick #BirdingScotland The quest for a yank wader - currently all residing @northronbirdobs.bsky.social - goes on...
Our first Redwing of the autumn was at Northbay this morning. Just as well there's a huge crop of Rowan berries on Barra this year as there will be many thousands of hungry thrushes passing through over the next two and a half months. #birdingscotland
1w Barred Warbler again feasting on rose-hips in the Balephuil, Tiree garden today (photos taken yesterday pm), also a Lapland Bunting calling in flight over Kenovay at midday #BirdingScotland #PWC2026 @birdguides.bsky.social
Common Buzzard at Fishnish, Mull. #BirdingScotland
Distant & heavily cropped pics of Golden Eagle on Mull a couple of days ago. #BirdingScotland
A great boat trip from Gairloch with @welshnaturelady.bsky.social, 1 Pom Skua, c150 Sootys, 2 Euro Stormies, Bonxie and a Minke. #birdingscotland
American Pipit spotted in Saltcoats Harbour!
Found late yesterday and still hanging about today - just look for the group of birders π
The 1w Barred Warbler showed well briefly in the Balephuil, Tiree garden this morning just as the rain stopped, before going back to its skulking ways #BirdingScotland #PWC2026

Another lovely bird to see at Eshaness, Shetland yesterday - Glossy Ibis. Once an extreme rarity here, the species is now pretty much annual in autumn and hails from expanding breeding populations in southern and south eastern Europe. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife
It's been a brilliant autumn for me for seeing Ruff. Plenty of them on the local patch and lots of them seen on days out to Musselburgh and Loch Leven RSPB earlier this month. These ones were performing right in front of the hides at the latter site #BirdingScotland #Birding
1CY Barred Warbler lurking in the Balephuil, Tiree garden willows this evening - the second so far this month #BirdingScotland #PWC2026 @birdguides.bsky.social
Enjoyed incredible views of this North American Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Eshaness, Shetland this morning. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife
