Happy birthday to English drummer & singer/songwriter Kevin Godley, #BOTD in 1945. Godley, famous for being a member of English art-rockin’ 10cc, is a two-time US #OneHitWonder honoree! (although not with 10cc!) #KevinGodley #10cc #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

The 'blaster is on a roll! “Hold On” by Ian Gomm climbed to #18 on the #Billboard #Top40… his only hit in the US as a performer… but between Brinsley Schwarz, “Cruel to Be Kind,” and his own little slice of late-’70s power pop, Gomm left fingerprints all over the era. #IanGomm #OneHitWondered

After Brinsley Schwarz folded, Ian Gomm moved to Wales, built a studio and eventually launched his solo career. His 1978 LP Summer Holiday was reworked for North America as Gomm With the Wind… and featured his breakout single, the mid-tempo power-pop gem "Hold On". #IanGomm #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Interestingly, Ian Gomm’s precise, melodic rhythm guitar work for Brinsley Schwarz quickly stood out… British music, film, & culture magazine New Musical Express (NME) named him ‘Best Rhythm Guitarist’ in 1971. #IanGomm #BrinsleySchwarz #NewMusicalExpress #OneHitWondered

Pub rock itself didn’t last long, but it mattered... The scene gave musicians, promoters and venues a working alternative to mainstream rock, and helped prepare for British punk. Pub rock helped build the rooms, audience and back-to-basics mindset that punkers inherited. #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

By the mid-’70s, English pub rockers Dr. Feelgood gave pub rock a bit of a dangerous edge… choppy guitar, snarling vocals and a stripped-down attack that sounded almost violent next to the era’s more polished rock. #DrFeelgood #PubRock #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Pub rock? In early-’70s UK, while rock was getting bigger, louder and more elaborate… some groups went the other direction: back to small clubs, cheap amps, R&B, country, blues, and straight-ahead rock ’n’ roll. The scene grew around London pubs. #PubRock #OneHitWondered

Ian Gomm spent years helping shape the sound that became pub rock before scoring a US #Top40 hit.... Gomm joined Brinsley Schwarz in 1970, helping them evolve from country-rock toward the stripped-down pub-rock sound that helped set the stage for Britain’s punk/new wave era #OneHitWondered #MusicSky
