The Birthday Party was received well in Oxford, but the "comedy of menace" closed after just a week in London. Now it's considered a classic. Playwright, screenwriter, actor and director, also husband to writer Antonia Fraser, #botd in 1930.

Australian journalist and poet Louise Mack was born on this day in 1870.

She wrote novels, poetry, and was one of the first women war reporters.
