Hey there, #OctoberWorldbuilders! We're starting a new week, this one dedicated to sports and games within our fictional worlds! Do you have any characters who play a sport or game? Do they play professionally or just as a hobby?

MonthlyWorldbuilders prompts daily feed card

Hosted by Kira of the Wind
Week 1: Deserts
8: Does your main character (or any other relevant character) play a sport or game? Are they any good at it?

The background image display trees in a peaceful forest during autumn, with lots of yellows and oranges. It feels very much like October and has a serene vibe

#TheDragonblood: At the risk of repeating myself (since this is pretty much the only detail I have about Kumat at the moment), we have some pretty old structures, in particular the Pyramids and Sphinx. They do tend to get covered in sand.

There’s a few ancient ruins scattered across the Barrens, mostly of long-gone civilizations predating Vekzis & Isendia, Ruquall’s longest-lasting realms.

Some of these ruins are suspected to hold jewels, precious metals, & artifacts sacred to Orichalcum.

I think the most interesting one I could use for this month would be the plague lands.

While they are not exclusively deserts, it is definitely dominated by large stretches of extreme baron landscape.

Both the hot kind and the frigid cold kind.

Iradiated wastelands 🌈 ☢️ ✨

#OctoberWorldbuilders A geologist would note the well-developed river valleys centered on arroyos, and work out that Hiddigaha once had a lot more rain.
An archeologist would love the Great Bull Temple, built by the conqueror Dushar the Great for his patron deity.

7. Desert ruins

Wander the Azrakia sands for long enough, and you may wander into the 'cursed lands' around the Gates of Hel. The ruins here tell the faintest, weakest tale of the island's prosperous past, as they are the remains of Kuramoila, the greatest city there ever was.

Like everywhere else in the world of Prophecies, the vast desert is peppered with ancient ruins full of magical items and fierce monsters. What do the desert's ruins have that most other ruins don't? Sand.

There are pyramids, but all of them are buried in the sand and most of them are upside down. The only things you'll find are trouble and confusion. The pyramids are cursed and hold powerful magic artifacts (but also monsters)

Well, there are ruins of the Dawn Age. Mostly destroyed and taken by the Reclaimers, but some sometimes pop out over the sand.

Urgaia's desert boasts many intricate rock formations, from mountains and valleys to colorful stone spirals in the southern regions. All of Theryl's geography was carved by Golnesh, so every land mass is in some way part of his artistic vision.

@shailstonelaw.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 3:59 PM

#OctoberWorldbuilders Suzamna has some less-than-ancient ruins, places that had to be abandoned as they became more and more unlivable and people fled to the capitol, where at least they could find food and shelter (hopefully). Lots of ghost towns in the Empire #GoldenDusk

In the world of Unsaved, there are plenty of ruins and this includes the Shimmery.
But today we're talking about geology, because the Shimmery is one of a very few places where you can find kairicite.
It is a vital ingredient in a longevity medicine among other uses.

The Aukroon is mostly loose rock and sediment that's been washed out of the Rugged Mountains. There are sandy plains where more finely eroded sediments from extinct riverbeds have gathered after being pushed along by the winds, but it's otherwise just ragged and rocky. ⬇️

Belkanel is mostly flat and is dotted with the worn stones that mark the old gravesites. There is one very large rock formation that is traditionally considered to be the home of Telamenos (Death). It's about the size of a city block, with many caverns and passages.

Granite mountains zig-zag throughout the deserts, some growing higher from shifting plates, others crumbling (choose your cave location wisely).

No real ruins as 1) ParDafi build temporary outdoor structures, and 2) sandstorms strip everything to nothing.

the setting is urban, so no deserts.

First of all, if you're wandering around there, turn back and hope you get out of there fast enough.
It's mostly a mixture of plains and craggy hills covered in grass or exposed rock, sometimes with ice or snow. It's wide open with no trees. Compasses mostly work, but
