#MMT is not a set of policies. It is an accurate description of how government finances work and have worked for decades. What MMT does do is dispel the lie of the household model that has been used by neoliberals restrict what government does.

#MMT doesn't say that state spending can be limitless. It says that the limits on what a government can do are the resources available to buy and inflation not a limited amount of money.
Perhaps you would benefit from finding out a bit more about MMT.
Greens have had a huge impact in ridding us of a Labour government stuck in neutral, and reintroduce left of centre politics. It’s hit their own prospects but has helped UK.plc, I just hope Andy’s diagnosis and vision translates into actions including #MMT paradigm to reverse neoliberal damage.

The government doesn't need the money from the sale of bonds. It is the banks and other financial institutions that need the bonds. The prevailing neoliberal myth has the story the wrong way round.

So long as the employment is productive it will increase the services and products available to buy so will not cause inflation.

Some of the comments Burnham made before he was PM made me hope that he understood #MMT but his actions since show that he doesn't. He is just as neoliberal as every other PM since 1980. The only remaining hope is Zack Polanski.
So long as the government is buying available resources (such as the labour of the unemployed) its spending will not cause inflation. Inflation is almost always caused by disruption to supply chains and raising interest rates is not the right response.

The rapid growth in house prices is a symptom of the neoliberalism that has infected our politics for the last 45 years. The housing crisis is not going to end until we have a government that understands #MMT so that it can use all of its power to benefit all of us.
The government can create as much money as it needs so long as there are resources available for it to buy. The constraint on spending is the available resources not the avaialability of money.

The UK is a currency issuing government, guaranteeing a job is not the issue. Why Labour aren't doing this, is. #MMT
"Bond markets won't allow it." False. The UK government sets its own interest rates through the central bank. Markets cannot force a currency issuer to cut spending or raise taxes. This is the bond vigilante myth; and it shapes policy anyway. Build your rebuttal at Argument Builder.
Kwame wants to train as a nurse. The labs exist. The instructors exist. The need is real. But HM Treasury's spending limits have blocked his path. When officials say "there is no money," they mean a choice, not a fact. The UK issues its own currency.
Two years is a patch job. Real price stability needs permanent public employment at a living wage. The Job Guarantee makes full employment and low inflation jointly achievable. Anything less leaves young people and inflation fighting over scraps.
Slower hiring + rising unemployment + stubborn inflation: the economy is doing exactly what orthodox policy designed it to do. The real question is whether we're going to keep sacrificing jobs to chase a price anchor we could replace.
No government has even tried to tackle tax avoidance, why would they when those who avoid tax give politicians bungs and kickbacks and the promise of a nice earner post politics. It's not a household budget, it's spend then tax always has been.

Another excellent video by @richardjmurphy.bsky.social explaining what money really is. Spoiler: it's most likely not what you've been told or what you may have read in mainstream economic text books.

The problem is that it is based on the lie that the government spends the tax it collects. It doesn't. All government spending is newly created money and it can create as much as it needs. Government money is never in short supply so there is never a need to make cuts to afford something else.
#MMT
The government doesn't spend any of the tax it collects and it doesn't borrow. All government spending is newly creates money and it can always create as much as it needs. As Keynes said, anything the government can do it can afford.
#MMT
The point is that the government is never short of money because it creates new money every time it spends. Funding a new national care service is not a problem. The issue is the availability of the resources needed.
