Space is an economy on Romulan ships, so she views the Enterprise as luxurious (I'm sure the rec room was a shock). Plus, she's very surprised at the diversity in the ship's crew since Romulans don't have that-- officers are all Romulan. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

It was expected. 1) Ael could have been leading them into trap and 2) Even if she wasn't, the risk of capture was too great.
