A2 #LTHEchat a lot of content in Business Management courses is about offering new analytical tools which will allow students to understand things which might seem familiar (like a particular organisation succeeding or failing) in a new way & these tools often benefit from visual representations 1/2

#LTHEchat A1 When I studied to be a teacher, we were taught that as learners we had to frame information in three analogous ways in order to really understand and learn it. Hence we listened, made notes, discussed, presented... My recommendation is illustrated notes w selfmade playful mnemonics

Among the most useful bits of CPD we arranged for our professional staff was sending one of them on a course in creating infographics #LTHEchat

I can so relate @santanuvasant.bsky.social! I was trained in mind mapping from someone in Busan’s organisation. I was already a big diagrammer, but I really helped me enhance my practice in that space (though the approach was a little strict for my liking) #LTHEchat

A1 I'm a big fan of infographics to portray information. From a personal perpective learning to cook/bake something new a photo alongside step by step instructions #LTHEchat

A nice example from outside academic work was watching a play based on family dynamics (an adaptation of the Forsyte Saga at the Park Theatre in London) & having a family tree to hand as a visual representation #LTHEchat 3/3

Q2 - When you make your own disciplinary reasoning visually e.g. mapping an argument, what are you modelling beyond content? What tacit expert moves become available for students to see?

A1 As a child, the water cycle drawn. I understood more deeply based I could read and see the drawing, allowing me to process the knowledge easier. It was in a Hodder & Stoughton Science textbook, which also had a science of learning section, with Tony Buzan's Mind Map technique #LTHEChat

Oh I love a map! #LTHEchat

Way back a colleague created a 'transitional object' which comprised a series of wheels on an axis, a bit like a fruit machine, which you could swivel independently as a way of demonstrating how somebody procuring a complete IT system could do so by building bits from multiple vendors 2/3 #LTHEchat

A1 #LTHEchat I always like maps in particular & seeing how different places relate to one another helps me to understand how for example a particular region or city works. But I find diagrams valuable where they highlight connections & categories. It doesn't need to be a picture either 1/3

Made it, if a little late! #LTHEchat

A1: I’d also add that as a geographer, models, figures and diagrams have always helped to simplify what can be very complicated systems. #LTHEchat

A1: Throughout my A-level, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies; I found myself learning and battling through more and more complicated things. Things that cannot be expressed (easily) in a linear way. Diagrams have always helped me connect ideas and express complexity. #LTHEchat
