Thank you @catherineomahony.bsky.social - great questions, always great to scamble to find an app on a tablet to 'sketch' a reply to #LTHEChat 😃. I have a great Christmas special in December on my #TalkingHE Podcast - Learning Beyond Text, w/ CEO of a well known educational service! #Spoilers

Yes, indeed, the legendary Professor Diana Laurillard used to say something similar in relation to Research in my MA Education at UCL IoE when I was in my early 20s. #LTHEChat

Yes, great in theory, appaling in practice. Not enough exemplars of how it's done well and it's time consuming - something academia in 2026 doesn't have. This might a task for Agent AI 😃 (water and energy concerns aside) #LTHEChat

A6 Mind-mapping a draft of an assessment, or drawing out a theory, concept or framework. If students were able to get their ideas down on paper quickly or able to recall a theory, concept or framework from memory that explain it verbally. #LTHEChat

I had several ex-lecturers, Professors, who became colleagues at Brunel, University of London that didn't like PowerPoint when it was originally encouraged to OHPs, for this very reason. They liked the pace they could keep using OHPs. #LTHEChat

A5 Those learners who have visual impairments if we use too many visuals. Designing learning that has a balance of learning preferences allows students to access the knowledge in different ways. UDL Principles. #LTHEChat

A4. In one module, we used two root cause analysis tools: a fishbone and 5 whys. The idea is that students reflect and analyse the problems and causes. Some struggle more than others, now more with AI. I try to teach them to be more critical when using AI (they should become the marker) #LTHEChat

A4 I often use visual metaphor to explore topics, use photovoice cards etc. I try to model sketch noting to encourage focus in sessions where attention may be waning.

@santanuvasant.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 7:48 PM

A4 Yes, usually charts, diagrams and illustrations. They are usually well received. I think revealing diagrams elements, on click is a useful think to do, so the students is overwhelmed by all the information at once and helps the educator to pace the explaination. #LTHEChat

A3 Engagement above the surface, but below - undiagnosed SpLDs (special learning differences), poor mental health and a lack of learning activities. The spatial positioning emphasises the visible and invisible teaching challenges. #LTHEChat

A2 Internal thought processing and thinking on a theory, concept or framework - the meta learning is what becomes visible to students, allowing them to hook onto the knowledge more effectively. We are trying to move them from novice to expert, often quicker in the UK 3 year UG degree. #LTHEChat

@santanuvasant.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 7:23 PM

Oh yes, hooking to prior experiences either in secondary or higher education is a powerful tool more educators should use in all subjects. I need to do this, in a Level 6 Future of Business Technologies cover lecture I am doing next Friday on Blockchain! #LTHEchat

Yes the approach of Buzan was a little strict, but it was my first exposure to learning techniques that were not just copying off the blackboard. At the time, meta cognition wasn't a thing in state schools. This was the book - www.abebooks.com/978034066388...

A1 As a child, the water cycle drawn. I understood more deeply based I could read and see the drawing, allowing me to process the knowledge easier. It was in a Hodder & Stoughton Science textbook, which also had a science of learning section, with Tony Buzan's Mind Map technique #LTHEChat
