Heterosis in crosses between remnant populations of the rare prairie #forb #Silene regia: Implications for restoration #genetics

Heterosis in crosses between remnant populations of the rare prairie forb Silene regia suggests that regional admixture provenancing would be a beneficial strategy for this species in ecological restorations. Between population crosses resulted in an overall 112% increase in cumulative fitness compared to within population crosses in a field experiment simulating the initial stages of a restoration. Figure shows means and standard errors for fitness components (top = percent of plants reproducing, middle = fecundity of reproducing plants, bottom = number of fruits produced per seedling planted) for each cross type for three maternal populations of Silene regia (Fou, Tip, and Ver) for the field experiment. In most cases, between population crosses had increased fitness compared to within population crosses. This effect was strongest for fitness components involving fruit counts, however heterosis was only significant for crosses with Fou as the maternal population.

I’m looking to hire a bioinformatics postdoc! The broad goal of the lab is to understand the genotype-phenotype map, with a focus on how variation in gene expression and chromatin modifications can drive differences in phenotypes. (1/3)

Please consider submitting comments on the implementation for genome edited plants in the EU. Reminder: this is not the place for general statements regarding your personal vie of #NGT. Instead, the Commission is asking for input for the development of workable rules.

I am looking to hire two seasonal field/laboratory technicians to join the lab working at the MSU Kellogg Biological Station and Main Campus. The primary work will be dedicated to our switchgrass program with potential to expand into other roles in the lab with time. careers.msu.edu/jobs/profess...

I'll be recruiting both Master's and PhD students, so if you know anyone that might be interested in integrating genomics and phenomics to understand evolution in barley and macroalgae, send 'em my way!

I'm excited to release the newest version of my free applied biostats textbook. It's tidyverse style, clarkia inspired and loads of fun

Im putting this down until the end of the semester, when I'll add and polish additional chapters, but the 1st 21 are pretty solid
