Independent courts channel the most heated political grievances into nonviolent resolutions. If an apex court abdicates that role by disenfranchising voters, institutionalizing clientelism, & shielding executive lawlessness, it removes the pressure valves that keep democratic competition peaceful.

The proposition was shocking to CISA’s career staffers. CISA typically worked to thwart hackers. Moreover, the agency had been directed not to alert the voting machine company if it uncovered flaws, contrary to its standard practices.
