Congratuations to our member Azer Kilic, who published "Professional translators’ imaginaries of the future of work amid AI advances: articulating fears, hopes, and desires within narratives of capitalism" in @jcultecon.bsky.social.

See @tgpb.bsky.social actually brilliant walk through in @jcultecon.bsky.social of how books like the Story of the Walkman were part of a creative, political and collective pedagogy that is now lost to us www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

it’s genuinely tragic what the catastrofuckery of uk university funding did to the OU, the institution’s failure to memorialise what people like Stuart Hall and Doreen Massey did there and why they stayed so long is just one more casualty

Love to see this but man the Story of the Walkman was an Open University textbook written towards the end of Stuart’s 18 year tenure there. He taught 10000s of OU students & that seems kind of airbrushed out of his legacy www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

ā€˜we are a little bit in this environment today; the music plays, and people are still dancing…The music will stop playing at a moment in time. But the timing is so difficult to predict, so that’s why diversification is more than ever necessary.’ Chanelling citigroup’s Chuck Prince in July 2007

And if it’s not germane (which it is) it’s still fascinating and untold. I mean if I see one more take that compares the AI bubble to railways or dot com I may fall into a coma. There is so so much else to say about the historical paths to where we are now.

What if I was to call it ā€˜The Big Shed Economy: the history of hyperscale finance’ eh? On account of the fact that the long history of insurance financing retail market encounters is (probably) germane to what’s happening now in AI financification.

We love basically everything about @cyberlyra.bsky.social @zephoria.bsky.social @alex-taylor.bsky.social @bshestakofsky.bsky.social manifesto arxiv.org/abs/2604.16106 - with 1 exception. Several JCE authors have been working on this stuff for a while. It’s a whole field not just a few authors
