Hello everyone, I've updated the story section of our fundraiser explaining (very shortly) what happened. We were lied to, taken advantage of, and just got back home after a cross-country drive. I'm exhausted, livid and feel so, so betrayed by my mother-in-law.

TL;DR: my mother-in-law lied about the living situation she had "set up" for us and after only a week in our new home, we were almost street homeless in a place nearly 3,000 miles away from anyone who would be willing to give us shelter. I maxed out my credit renting a u-haul and bringing all our things and ourselves back to the east coast.

I am currently searching for another job now that I am back, but that does not negate the fact that now, with all the moving expenses, motel stops, gas, etc. I am $11k in debt... because my mother-in-law decided to be deceitful and try to trap us across the country with her because she missed her son.

UPDATE 10/7/2026
The situation we moved into with my husband's mother was nothing but an expertly crafted lie by my manipulative mother-in-law. She lured us across the country with the promise of a stable home environment, only to rip the rug out from beneath our feet and leave us floundering. On September 30th, just 11 days after we had gotten settled (and one day since our things had arrived in WA), the assistant park manager showed up at our trailer door and told us that we had 24 hours to scrape together $5k or be kicked out by 4pm PST. We had never been notified of any outstanding rent on the property, in fact, we were told that we wouldn't have to worry about it.

The assistant manager was incredibly kind and let us stay an extra day, despite the outstanding balance and during that time, I was left trying to figure out what to do. Finally, we settled on simply renting a uhaul, re-packing all our things that had just arrived with our moving service into it, and driving across the country. The other option was being street homeless and unemployed in a state nearly 3,000 miles away from anyone that would even think of trying to help support us physically.

As of 10/7/2026, we just arrived back in New Jersey. We weren't even able to stay a full two weeks in the place promised to us. And my mother-in-law is currently ghosting my husband, meaning she is not willing to help with any of the costs. Between the initial move to Washington and our escape back to New Jersey, I had to put myself into massive debt to make sure that we were not going to be homeless.

We were lied to. I was betrayed and I am livid, tired and currently navigating the job market now that I am back home. Anything helps. I've included my current credit card standing as well, for proof. I am just so tired. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and support myself, my sister, my husband and our fur babies.
