In real data, we recover physiologically plausible laminar dynamics in visual and sensorimotor cortex. MEG isn't a "cortical-layer microscope", but there’s a lot more spatial information in those magnetic fields than the spatial/temporal resolution cartoon gives it credit for.
We tried to see how far we can push MEG to tell us not just where activity is on the cortex, but where it sits across cortical depth. Turns out it's possible under the right conditions. SNR, co-registration, anatomy, orientation and the forward model all really matter
Can we move MEG a little further down here now? Nobody puts Baby in a corner!
Our multilayer MEG paper is out today in Nature Communications: depth-resolved laminar inference in humans 🧠#neuroskyence

Beta burst waveforms index motor skills across DCD and healthy in a difficult EEG dataset. Have a good look. By @hollyrayson.bsky.social @danclab.bsky.social and good folks from my old stomping grounds @cardiffuni.bsky.social School of Psychology.
