This is excellent; a truly balanced read on the use of 'AI' in science.

This summer I led a series of conversations in my lab about "AI" and our research. Some colleagues have shared "AI policies" for their labs and we discussed whether this would make sense for us. We decided it did not, and came up with a different approach. Please feel free to share & adapt!

How can students and postdocs shape their field of research?

We're excited to share our TiCS piece, showcasing MESEC as a case study for exactly this question! So grateful for our wonderful community of MESECeers 🤗

I am SO excited to share our new preprint, spearheaded by the brilliant @aozsu.bsky.social! We use ANNs to show that the brain might build internal models of the world by learning to distinguish imagery from perception, and that this could explain why imagination seems so vivid in children ✨

I am beyond excited to share our new preprint ‘Building world models by learning to distinguish imagination from reality: why childhood imagination feels so real’ with Nora Petrova, @tessamdekker.bsky.social and @nadinedijkstra.bsky.social. osf.io/preprints/ps...

After five years of confused staring at Greek letters, it is my absolute pleasure to finally share our (with @smfleming.bsky.social) computational model of mental imagery and reality monitoring: Perceptual Reality Monitoring as Higher-Order inference on Sensory Precision ✨

The saga continues: significant decoding of voluntary imagery in early visual cortex *during aphantasia* - but a lack of cross-decoding with perception, maybe suggesting different sensory formats?
