A potentially wild El Niño ahead.

Niño 3.4 is forecast around +3.7°C for Oct–Nov–Dec, peaking in December.

For context: the previous record was +2.6°C in 2015–16.

Time to focus-up…

and an update on the road ahead for food prices as El Nino builds.

Summary at the end on the global gains of the far right is chilling.

Brilliant call from @meadwaj.bsky.social to focus climate adaptation responses on the economics of everyday life, what do our communities feel like, to form a collective response in solidarity as opposed to the individual bunker mentality that’s often pushed

Important research from @meadwaj.bsky.social showing jobs claims around data centres are hugely overblown: "vast new datacentres arrive at significant real costs to local communities and even our climate ambitions, and their use case has to be made by the government and industry".

ICYMI - @meadwaj on the economic cost of the UK heatwaves. We talked about how productivity was hit across the economy, and how the casualisation of the workforce makes people increasingly vulnerable to the physical and financial damage caused by such events:

The OP. It’s something of a subtweet but if the article thinks that ex Corbyn staffers (NB I was John’s econ advisor not JC’s) are there to try and replicate Corbynism, then it’s mistaken.

@meadwaj.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 7:03 AM

(It’s a criticism of the article…)

@meadwaj.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 6:04 AM

A reminder: Corbynism is finished, over, dead. The world has changed & the conditions that produced its relative success in 2017 (think: low inflation, low interest rates) are not coming back. The reason to join Greens is they are the party of the left best aligned with how the world has changed.
