Anwar Shaikh was the most brilliant Marxist economist of his generation. He leaves behind a legacy that has the potential to drive political economy forward for years to come.

I have a new paper on the workplace case study tradition in #industrialrelations Briefly, it has reinvented itself as the study of organisational restructuring with attempts to assess the distributional impact of such changes. Even so, the flow of such articles is in decline.

This is sort of a Rorschach test -- do you see "interest rates spiking scarily due to unsustainable government debt/the breakdown of the dollar system/etc", or do you see "interest rates returning to historically normal levels after the extraordinary monetary easing of the GFC-pandemic period"?

New data shows that workers are getting the smallest share of the economic pie on record.

On the heels of Labor Day, this decline makes the case for rebuilding worker power all the more urgent. One obvious place to start is raising the federal minimum wage. 🧡

For Norwegians who lose their jobs, a comprehensive welfare system makes the experience of unemployment materially and morally very different from what unemployed workers in the United States undergo.

The US government wrote off almost all the money it lent businesses during the pandemic. Now it’s wrecking credit scores and threatening to garnish paychecks to collect student loans. Debt can be forgiven easily enough β€” just not for the working class.

Walmart spent $43.4B on stock buybacks from 2019 to 2025, enough to give each of its 2.1M workers annual bonuses of $2,953. Last year, retiring CEO Doug McMillon pocketed $29.2M β€” his largest payday ever and 958x Walmart's median worker pay of $30,520. Textbook corporate greed.
