🦇 Reference genomes and fossils revise bat family phylogeny and biogeography🧪

Resolving long-standing controversies in bat biology and providing new insights into the evolutionary history and trait diversification of bats.
Ever wondered how to combine biodiversity analyses in geographic space with those in environmental space, while also considering species' traits in an attribute space? Wonder no more!
Fresh out of the oven: a little provocation about the conclusion that macroevolution rates are slower than we would expect.
Feedback and rebuttals are welcome

Happy to share that the last chapter of my dissertation is finally out in Evolution! 🦎⛰️ I'll share a longer thread soon about what we did and found.

Our global analysis of ecosystem functions and services is online now! This is probably the paper I'm most proud of - a quantitative, global map of every one of the IPBES ecosystem service categories, all tracked back to the original data! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Post-doctoral fellow in global forest dynamics!
TreeChange combines life history traits from field observations with demographic modelling to understand the future of forests and the carbon sink. Based at Lund in Sweden you will work with researchers across the world
Please pass along: I’m recruiting PhD students to join our Macroecology Lab. We study physical ecology, macroecology, and biodiversity — spanning scaling, trait-based ecology, theory, comparative biology & ecoinformatics. Several avenues for funding. Please reach out if interested 🧪🌐🌾
New paper!
Brandon Kilbourne conducted a huge data collection effort for the limb muscle architecture (masses, fascicle lengths, pennation angles; thereby PCSAs) of mustelid mammals.
We found conspicuous relationships with morphology and locomotor mode.

Climate change is reshaping butterfly ranges worldwide. A global study found that 80% of 1,758 species in its dataset had expanded their ranges. @larspett.bsky.social and colleagues combined 6,182 reports from 105 countries. doi.org/10.1038/s415... #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #Ecology

🚨🚨 1. New preprint! We examine whether the diversity of transcontinental freshwater fish radiations, such as killifishes and cichlids, might be driven by marine ancestry in the aftermath of an asteroid impact! Retained salinity tolerance explains their biogeography and diversity!

New #ornithology paper out in @ecography.bsky.social! The tendency of birds to return to the same breeding area in different years varies wildly among species. We show that breeding site fidelity is much lower in #shorebirds nesting in the #Arctic tundra than in those nesting in other habitats. 1/n
