Auxin kept us entertained. This time brought us to the south of Portugal. Some intense days at #AUXIN2026 @aabiologists.bsky.social So great to have met in person a bunch of colleagues!
Good grief. What a depressing article.
Plants mentioned briefly once, about their interactions with animals.
How can the New York Times pretend to have captured "the biggest question in science" without reference to the most important kingdom, which sustains us? 😤

Pathway to Independence – an interview with Josep Mercadal
In this interview, @josepmercadal.bsky.social talks about the importance of interdisciplinary diversity for developmental biology, as well as his hopes and plans for his future lab.
Super cool seminar today @rdplab.bsky.social from @haesleinhuepf.bsky.social, a must-hear perspective on AI in image analysis!
We have written a review on MADS-box genes expression in developing floral organs, which has been under-explored as compared to their early role to specify floral organ identity.
Congrats to Emma Désert for her first review article as a PhD student! #proudPI @rdplab.bsky.social
Fuck this. If this is the future of scientific papers, I'm out. And shame on @nature.com for engaging in this bullshit AI booster propaganda. Profit above all yet again. Why not stop doing science altogether?
So proud of this! Once again great teamwork and a great story from a very unusual model!!! Check it out!!!!
Out today in Nature: sex without crossovers.
Rhynchospora tenuis makes pollen, fertilises and sets seed, yet 0 crossovers in 10,997 pollen nuclei. Chromosome drive and ~87% seed abortion rebuild the mother's genotype, so the offspring are clones.
I am glad to use the balcony during these last days of summer, including attending the @embo.org lab leadership course @embolableadership.bsky.social (or at least until thirsty mosquitoes come to say hi)
Happy to share our latest work digging a bit more into what makes the the core microbiota of photosynthetic organisms convergent (or not!). Work performed @lipme-toulouse.bsky.social @cnrs.fr, in collaboration with @guan06rui.bsky.social @quadraminstitute.bsky.social tinyurl.com/3e958dt6 (1/10)

PhD position available (start 2027) in my group at TUM! We study how mechanical stress controls cell cycle progression and cytoskeletal dynamics in plants, combining cell biology, biochemistry and biophysics. CV + cover letter to [email protected]. RTs welcome! #PlantSciJobs
Júlia Garcia Baucells from the Dammermann lab defended her thesis “Centrosome mechanical properties in C. elegans cell division”! Well done, congratulations 👏🤩
