After prison, I published a collection of poetry that was written during my incarceration. In addition to my work with PJP, I teach creative writing at Gotham Writers Workshop. Here's the first story I ever published with PJP:
Good morning, Bluesky! It's @kashawntaylor.bsky.social here, ready for my first full day manning PJP's account. I'm a formerly incarcerated writer and a PJP alum. I absolutely love the work that PJP does, and without PJP, I don't think I would have had the confidence to write from prison.

20 new subscribers to go! We set a mini-goal of 29 new subscribers from Bluesky by Friday, and we’re getting there. If you haven’t subscribed to The Inside Story (or KITES) yet, now’s a great time. Help us get more stories by incarcerated writers in front of more readers.

I'm so excited to be taking over on Bluesky. Be sure to follow @prisonjournalism.bsky.social to keep up with the org, read stories from incarcerated and formerly incarcerated writers, and learn how you can do your part to support the work of these writers.
Hi friends! @kashawntaylor.bsky.social, our engagement fellow, will be manning our Bluesky account going forward. I’m still here through the end of the week, but I wanted to make sure you all were properly introduced. Please give him a warm welcome!

The Library of Congress named PJP’s Journalism as Literacy initiative a 2026 Emerging Strategies Honoree. It comes with a $5,000 prize. We're challenging our readers to celebrate by matching it. Help us turn $5,000 into $10,000 for PJP Learning in the next 48 hours.
PJP trains incarcerated writers to become journalists and publishes their work. If you appreciate what we do, please consider signing up for our newsletter.
