In case you weren't able to make it, @sara-altman.bsky.social and I wrote up the talk for the @posit.co OSS blog. We talked about the rise of "vibe analysis," the pitfalls of human-in-the-loop, and some new software from Posit. opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-10...

“You are infringing on the time and brainpower of people by pushing "your" content that little/no of your brainpower went into” is such a banger

I like seeing the dev of the SNES core on the Pocket actually telling one of these dudes off. Holy shit.

If it works, that's pretty cool; I didn't think
would ever see this implemented (I also didn't
expect LLMs to exist).
However, this is not something you can PR
here, or anywhere. You sent me a nearly 50k
line diff, unasked for, completely LLM built, and
you somehow expect me to review it. There is
SO MUCH unrelated garbage here. Never
minding all of the docs and Python, you've
somehow touched basically all of the upstream
HDL, which already had MSU1 support, so idk
what in the world you're doing.
This kind of behavior is not acceptable. You are
infringing on the time and brainpower of people
by pushing "your" content that little/no of your
brainpower went into; completely unrequested.
I hope for the sake of all responsible
maintainers that you do not do such a thing
again.
Again, I think it's cool that you and your LLM
supposedly got this to work. It has no place in
my world.

Such an honor to keynote at posit::conf(2026). I still vividly remember the first conf keynote I ever saw, when @jennybryan.bsky.social spoke about debugging in San Francisco. Very grateful for the opportunity (especially to present alongside @sara-altman.bsky.social)!

Me, from behind, facing to posit::conf() crowd. The speaker's screen reads "In the battle between convenience and correctness, convenience is winning."The stage, from the viewer's perspective. Sara sits behind me, and a large logo reading posit conf(2026) is behind us. On both sides is our slide deck, showing two dots besides each other.

Some reflections on one of the first #rstats packages I wrote: simonpcouch.com/blog/2026-10...

@simonpcouch.comOct 2, 2026, 5:29 PM

My schedule for the day of my posit::conf talk was: * 2, 3, 4, 5, 6am: wake up, worried I'd miss my alarm * 9-10am: speak * 11am-3pm: nap * 7pm: realize it was the day of the odbc CRAN release deadline and frantically send out a patch

@simonpcouch.comOct 2, 2026, 5:27 PM

A pair of boring odbc patch releases have made their way to CRAN in the past couple weeks🥱 Hopefully they make R database users' lives easier!

New in querychat: multiple tables, chat history, data-dict, and easy extraction of findings into Quarto, Shiny, Jupyter, etc.

querychat is now much more capable beyond just querying "pre-defined" Shiny outputs.

Available for both #rstats and #python.

FYI Posit AI Pass subscribers; we wound down the instance serving Gemma 4 today. If you were a regular user, you might give GLM 5.3 Flash a try; it's vision capable, quite a bit larger and newer (and thus more capable!), and served at ~half the price that Gemma 4 was per-token!

It was such a highlight for me, too! @k-bott.bsky.social

We're excited to share commons, an R and Python package that helps data scientists build trustworthy data agents for their organizations!

#PositConf2026 (via the #RPharmaSummit2026 pre-game) has already been worthwhile for introducing me to Kimi K3 in Posit AI Pass! So far it's good, fast, and relatively cheap. This is what I get for skipping any of @simonpcouch.com 's blog posts! opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-08...

I saw our packages were hanging out in `precheck` together. :)
