Thank you to all who attended our Refuse, Resist, Repair: Making Critical Moves in the Times of AI event on Zoom this afternoon! We had a fantastic conversation with @jenny-l-davis.bsky.social @posada.website @fractalecho.bsky.social @steelecat717.bsky.social and Apryl Williams.
One of the things I love most about give presentations to conferences is citing my friends who are also at those conferences. @kkoopman.bsky.social and @fractalecho.bsky.social, if more people than usual come find you and bug you about stuff, that may be part of why :D #4SToronto2026 #4S2026

An entire lineage of humanities scholars are still being brought up in a discourse of cyborg as separate from disability, and are discovering disability within cyborg literature, but are not finding the disabled cyborg literature!
And yes, I do blame Haraway!
Sobbing
and i think what's interesting about that is that these are both sort of synthetic, manufactured computational targets like it was necessary to invent something to compute such that having the biggest computers would mean you had the power
They really can’t make a case for why people would want these in their community except to invoke some scary foreign other and an undefined need to “win” in a way they can’t connect to the quality of life to the average person but only shareholder value.
When all else fails, try xenophobia.
“In a more than 3,000 word blog posted today, Amazon web services CEO Matt Garman pushed back on public concerns around the impact that data centers may have on jobs, power demands, and the environment, saying ‘our nation can’t afford to lose’ the race for AI dominance.”
The whole time I was writing I was like "surely this will have the shelf life of raw milk" Narrator: it had the shelf life of a twinkie.
Oh this might be interesting too. It's very upsetting to read the subtle hopefulness I think we had at the time.
Wonderful! You might enjoy the Mad Scholars Anthology too. I have a chapter in there.
It's my bookiversary. (check comments for a link that works.)

When you write a paper on [sociotechnical topic] and ADHD, I notice when you completely ignore the literature on autism and [sociotechnical topic]. All that to say - this is a way that bias, stigma, and lateral ableism shows up in research.
🧵How are data and automation shaping child welfare practice today? How can children and families be at the center of these conversations and decisions? What harms must we guard against? What might be coming down the pike?
Do you want to read up on topics that are covered in the Ghost in the Machine documentary?
I'd start with Disabling Intelligences by @fractalecho.bsky.social, who also covers the legacies of eugenics that the documentary begins with.

I call it the Disability Diversion :)
when you work at the BPAF but you’re beginning to realize there’s not going to be a successful IPO
