It’s so grim, right? But I guess that mentality explains a lot about why we are getting LLM in first place

England is a great country, because once we name a village, that name becomes a sacred, immovable thing (however horrifying the image it conjures may be).

Here on the blurred borders of autumn, fields sing for their due libations of ale and blood. Demand the honouring of our old contracts with them. For harvest needs a balancing and fair payment. Take not corn saints and corn maidens till the tithe is paid. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #Equinox

Even inland, the salt-hag is tide-pulled. Gulls call her to come to shore and see the wave-polished augeries on display. Sea-seasoned winds make promises of things to be summoned at the slack. She walks to her secret cove. Her first glimpse of sea an intoxication. – #EmilyCBanting #WitchSky

Obviously I get in real life it’s not that simple. (I’d love a story if the woman chose a literal bear. My friend Mina Ma already wrote it, in fact, and it was fabulous). But there’s a nuance in real life and also in stories and I’d love to read more of those ones.

Funny to write that but honestly, it’s got to stage where men being horrible to women as a plot device is just stale, for me. And the women just seem to take it. Imagine a woman who just left cos she felt like it. Or was the star of her own show. Imagine that.

@neitherfishnorfoul.com is still open.

I’d love to see protagonists with some fire in their bellies & characters who do not go gentle into that good night. Folks who don’t accept their fates.

I’d also really love to see some stories where men aren’t stereotypes too. 1/2

This week I had two play rehearsals, one improv class, volunteered on door at a show & did a full day clown workshop. Plus read for @neitherfishnorfoul.com and had existential crisis about my own writing (now resolved). Another improv rehearsal tomorrow.

Life after 50? Not too shabby.

I've come across a new skipping rhyme in the playground:

I know where the Growling Trees are
Are they near? Are they far?
I know where the Wailing Ghosts are
Are they trapped in soul jar?
Beat them, beat them with an iron bar

Even by school standards, it's a little creepy. – Joanna Vickers #VOH

Who ordered the basket of disappointed kittens? Postcard from my collection, mailed 1904.

Black and white photo of four kittens spilling out of a basket that seems to be partially full of hay. They’re all short haired, and there is a black haired tuxedo, two tabbies, and what looks like a white and calico. They all look grumpy and disappointed.

Squeee! The lovely folks at @doesithavepockets.bsky.social agreed to re-publish my story about lions, whirligigs & tomatoes (hint: it is not about any of these things). It was 3rd in an equally lovely Propelling Pencil (now closed) competition in 2023.

So, we're allowing conditions for development of antibiotic resistant bugs +, at the same time, not putting enough effort into developing new antibiotics.

As this report puts it, if antibiotics stop working effectively, we 'lose modern medicine as we know it'.
