Farmworkers on H-2A visas won a rare victory in federal court. But they are still being paid the wages that were just ruled illegal. @greymoran.bsky.social reports:

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today.
www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

I just saw a film about the AI-enabled apocalypse. Only it's not science fiction. It's not even in the future. It's in the present. The film is called NAZA. See it.

Big congrats to all winners!

It was a joy serving as a judge for the @coveringclimatenow.org awards. It feels especially meaningful to see so many awe-inspiring articles about climate change, as this coverage is being deprioritized across many newsrooms

Exactly. I’ve been saying this since I started the tracker last year, and it’s why I don’t call them deportations.

I am using the term "third-country removals" instead of "third-country deportations" here, because the latter is a legal process in which a migrant is resettled in a safe third country. What is actually happening, in nearly all cases, more closely resembles chain refoulement, rendition, or kidnapping - and may violate U.S. and

amazing stuff

"This government hates us and wants us dead," Kathleen Hanna remarked during Bikini
Kill's set. "They don't give a shit about anybody's healthcare. They don't care if we're dying in parking lots of curable illnesses.
They don't give a shit. They don't care if our rights are taken away. They're ripping people off the streets. I'm not gonna tell you all the bad things! But I am gonna say it makes it hard for me in my body sometimes to have a good time. 'Cause it's hard to turn it off. And I was thinking that on the way here. I was like,
'What a gift.' What a gift we have to be able to play for you. What a gift Olivia has given all of us to do this festival.

PinkNews faced a choice: serve the community or chase mass-produced, uncontroversial content. Its decision to cave to the algorithm has left it in reputational and financial tatters.

Across the country, JBS and Cargill plants have been offering unions identical wage proposals, or just mere nickels part. Union leaders allege that the two major meatpacking companies are working together to set a wage standard across the industry.
